We had the good fortune of connecting with Emma Beamon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emma, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Crafting has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was little my dad would bring home colorful wire from work for me to sculpt with, and I would sit on the floor with my mom and put pictures and poems into my own scrapbook. Throughout the years I explored a variety of crafts, and have loved all of them. I have always loved making things and sharing what I’ve made with others, and I hope that the things I create can bring joy to someone else! So when I first started selling my crafts at a booth at the student market in college, it was to share what I loved to make and to make people smile. From there I decided to start an Etsy shop and have been growing and exploring ever since! My shop is less about the shop itself and more about having an outlet for all of the different things I love to make and being able to share them with everyone!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a small business owner, an artist, and a creative, and I hand make everything that goes into my shop – but I do also work full time at a “regular” job. It is difficult to balance sometimes, but not having to fully rely on my small business income relieves the pressure and allows me to be more creative. Eventually I would like to pursue my creative ventures further, but for now I actually really enjoy my full time job and I love that it gives me the flexibility to be creative with my free time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh goodness – there are so many interesting places in the valley! For coffee I would take her to King Coffee Roastery on Union Hills – it’s a go-to for coffee and morning snacks, they have plenty of dairy free options for drinks! For food we would have to make a stop at Pick’n’roll sushi on Bell because it’s delicious and their build your own poke bowls and golden California rolls are AMAZING! We would absolutely have to grab some lemonade and snacks from Wow Wow Hawaiian Lemonade at Greenway and 64th or over at Happy Valley because who doesn’t love Hawaiian lemonade? I would love to take her to a local Headstrum show – their live music is always awesome, and they have a great stage presence! And if she is visiting in the fall I would love to take her to the Rocker 7 sunflower field in Buckeye for fun fall pictures, and to Mortimer farms for their fall festivities and barn dances! (Lillie if you’re reading this it means you should come visit soon!)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents have always been my biggest supporters – they’ve encouraged my involvement in arts of any kind since I was very little. They have never once discouraged artistic expression and cheered me on for every craft I chose to pursue. From scrapbooking to photography to jewelry to weaving to ceramics and everything in between, they gave me the confidence to try any new art form that I stumbled upon. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me! I would also like to thank my husband, who has not only put up with my crazy crafts but has whole-heartedly encouraged me to pursue my passions. Thank you for all your support!
