We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmin Sky Pena and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmin Sky, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a mother of four kids (ages 7yrs – 10months), I think the most important thing I’ve done as a parent is homeschool. I am entering my 4th year of home educating and it has been such a beautiful experience being able to teach my children at home. I find myself enjoying every bit of our daily rhythm and learning right along with them. As a homemaker, I love creating an ambiance of love and peace, where it allows my children their complete selves.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art is something that comes naturally to me from a very young age. From art projects at school to decorating my room, and even sewing my first skirt at 11 years old. Creating has always been a passion and a part of me that in elementary, I already had some of my art displayed at Alwun House Foundation, a local and well-known non-profit house of art. Fast forward to today, I am still doing what I love but better, I’m doing adult stuff now like decorating interiors, local businesses, and sets for photoshoots.
I strongly believe that what sets me apart from others is that I create art, whether styling shoots, creating floral arrangements to even the product I bring into my Fair-Trade Shop, I do it with the intention of ART being displayed and admired. I love honoring the talented Artisans we work with by sharing their stories and products.
Decor with Amor was founded in 2015 as an interior styling business, I would also sell hand-sewn throw pillows and nursing covers. In 2019 0ur love for handmade led us to Fair-Trade and the beauty behind the organization. What started out as a passion project has now turned into a mission of love.
Being a small business owner has its perks but also its downfalls. One of the main ones is the funds and resources. I truly wish with all my heart I had enough money to help these artisans in the villages we have gone to while on a mission trip in Mexico. I brought back a lot of their items to showcase and style to the best of my ability. In hopes that the rest of the world can capture the beauty of handmade and Fair-Trade. I know that we can make a difference even in the smallest way possible but in order to truly make an impact, I would have to move a lot of product. I am still on a mission to finding the funds to move in bigger quantities. Last year I was able to get Our Canvas Messenger Bag on Amazon and the funds are being used to further seek more talented artisans. The road has definitely been difficult and has taken a lot of sleepless nights but I have faith that all these seeds will one day bloom. Good things take time.
Lessons I’ve learned along the way is to always remain true to yourself and remember your why. That why will push you to reach your goals and will come in handy when the road gets tough.
It brings joy to my life to be able to use my styling skills for the greater good and showcase these beautiful handmade decor pieces. DECOR WITH AMOR is truly a handmade love story.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Phoenix is so beautiful but out of all the places I would take her to see the sunrise at south mountain, then eat some delicious gorditas and an agua de horchata from a local food truck. After go take a walk downtown if the sun is not too harsh. I would also take her to the Farmers Market to get some cold brew from Mommas ColdBrew and finish off at West Gate to hand out
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my story, the only one that deserves recognition is God the Most High. There is no doubt that I am where I am because of Him.
