We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristy DeWitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
One thing I’ve leaned over the past few years is if you never take risks you can’t level up. If you’re afraid to fail it will keep your butt glued to the floor. Moving outside your comfort zone takes guts and we all dislike being uncomfortable. Wether it’s in relationships, exercise, jobs, this same principal applies for all areas of life. To say we took huge risks is an understatement. Without risk and without failure their is no reward. It can be terrifying to take such leaps of faith especially with 3 little kids. You have to take a massive step outside your comfort zone to begin to change your circumstances. We weren’t lucky. I took risks and worked INCREDIBLY hard to get to where we are today.
I have had so many different jobs😅 I worked in hospitality, resorts, restaurants, car dealerships, gyms, social media, marketing, too many to list on my resume. Want to hear something crazy? If I disliked the jobs I QUIT! I had some jobs for less than 30 days because I refuse to be unhappy. It’s hard to quit – its a RISK to quit a job, on the other hand its easy to settle.
Ultimately I fell onto Real Estate and BAM who would have guessed that was my jackpot calling. However if I never took risks it’s doubtful I would have found it!
What should our readers know about your business?
I was a D1 college athlete, a competitive springboard diver. After I graduated I had 3 kids right away. While I was home raising my family, I started documenting my life/motherhood on my instagram page @baby_fitgym. I grew it to 200,000 followers by showing the real highs and lows of life. I am transparent- life is not all glitter and butterflys! I showed the hardships and struggles. I learned a lot growing an online business. But still I had this drive inside of me to do more. This competitive drive I wasn’t sure how to fill.
I stumbled into real estate organically. I had an opportunity and although it was intimidating i jumped 100% in and never looked back. Building a business in real estate took blood, swear, tears, sleepless nights, missing time with my kids, anxiety, highs, lows, grit, perseverance. I might even need therapy now. When people say “looks so easy” and “how lucky” they don’t see all the sacrifices and mental emotional physical work. My husband and I PUT IN THE WORK.
We partnered with an innovative company that helped lay the foundation for our business. Successful businesses solve problems. We solve problems for our clients everyday. We have a process and program that makes the home selling process smooth for our sellers. We are changing the way real estate is sold! My husband and I have been in the real estate business for only 2 years and together have sold over 300 homes.
That being said I am a living breathing representation of how you can chase and conquer your dreams!!!! Don’t let fear of failure and rejection stop you from living your best life!! Start conquering that bucket list!!!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Arizona has SO much to offer. One of my hobbies is to try new restaurants and explore all of Arizona’s gems. If I had a friend here for the weekend, I would hopefully convince them to stay at least a week to see and do everything!
I personally love going to the lake, Arizona has several lakes and there is just something so revitalizing about being on the water. I love to surf and soak in the Arizona Sun. After the lake I would venture into Old Town Scottsdale. Instead of going to just one restaurant I love to go to several and have a drink and appetizer at each. We would go to Buck and Rider, Toca Madera, and Modern Chophouse.
Another amazing perk to Arizona is that you can travel 2 hours away and be in a completely different environment! To take a break from the valleys heat we would go up to Pine Arizona and enjoy time at the cabin in the Pine trees!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Family. Family is everything. Building businesses takes an entire army. For me that army is FAMILY. My husband is incredibly supportive. He is my partner at home and partner in our business. Nick compliments all my strengths and weaknesses. I got into real estate first but our real success happened when we joined together. We support each other, critique each other, and we ultimately push each other to be the best versions of ourselves. We have 3 small kids and juggling and finding balance is crucial. Both our families are close by and help out with the kids whenever possible! It takes a village and we are grateful to have that!
