We had the good fortune of connecting with Tay Hawker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tay, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Through my years of working within College Athletics, I have identified many areas that need work. however with the NIL being passed. There was a substantial lack of support for Student – Athletes wanting to get into this space. Subsequently, I saw that I had a network of people that would excel in this space. It really became a perfect storm that I knew I had to attack. Hawker Family Sports & Entertainment was born to enable athletes and influencers to continue to excel in the classroom and on the playing surface. Our job is to take care of the rest.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hawker Family Sports & Entertainment is fundamentally changing the way college and professional athletes are conducting business. We have a new-age approach to growing an audience, and then monetizing the audience. We have utilized the technological world to start and run an entirely remote business with some of the best young minds from around the country. We have partnered with Hoskin Capital to handle our clients financial management however in house, we have Branding, Legal, Business Development, Public Relations & Career Development. We are a full service sports agency at the end of the day and we are loving doing what we do. We have some of the most incredible clients we could ever imagine. Throughout the process we have learned the importance of listening. We might have big plans for clients but if they aren’t wanting that then we need to remember we work for them. If we want the world to know anything, it’s that we are a family.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being in the desert is a treat. Things that need to be hit would be hunting up in Carefree, hiking camelback, cruising around Papago Park and watching Case Hatch & DeaMonte Trayanum play in Sun Devil Stadium. I would have to take them to Buffalo Chip to get some culture in there. Arizona isn’t short on things to do by any means.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My whole story isn’t possible without my parents, Brian & Tracy Hawker. While this seems like a cliché shoutout, there is nothing about their journey that is cliché. They came from extremely humble beginnings and built a life not just for themselves, but for me to go on and do the amazing things I have been able to at such a young age. I feel as though if I don’t go on to utilize every opportunity I have, it is a disservice to the work they put in to put me here.
