Meet Vanessa Rivers | Co-Founder – We Are Travel Girls

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Rivers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, how does your business help the community?
Our travel community, We Are Travel Girls, inspires, educates, empowers and connects female (and male) travelers all around the world. Our destination guides are some of the top ranking travel stories on Google and they are packed with useful information to help our readers make the most of their travels. We also help female travelers connect with each other online through our popular instagram page @WeAreTravelGirls and in person through our meet-ups and Travel Girls Getaways around the globe. We’ve hosted an array of curated luxury trips including an eco ski trip to the Austrian Alps, a Best Of Morocco Country Tour and my favorite, our Malawi Safari & Charity trips where we give back and empower the local community we visit.
What should our readers know about your business?
The content on WeAreTravelGirls.com and the photos we feature @WeAreTravelGirl are contributed by women from all over the world making We Are Travel Girls a go-to resource for female travel tips, advice, and stories.
I met my business partner, Becky van Dijk, in London in 2015 and we immediately bonded over a mutual love for travel and decided to come together to create a community to inspire women to get out of their comfort zone and see the world! At the time we met there were no travel community websites that consistently shared travel articles from women around the world. So, we decided to create a website to promote female travel bloggers and bring together women from all around the globe, publishing five new, authentic, travel articles every week.
Since We Are Travel Girls launched in 2016 we have expanded our brand to host events and meet-ups all over the world, curate bespoke luxury women’s only trips through Travel Girls Getaways, and proudly launched the charity branch of our company to give back through Travel Girls Giving.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For Phoenix? I wrote an entire guide to Scottsdale which has everything you need to know for visiting the city! You can check it out here: https://wearetravelgirls.com/scottsdale-bachelorette-party-guide/
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to thank journalist Alexandra Talty for including me and We Are Travel Girls in several of her travel articles. Alexandra is a fellow surfer, and a senior contributor for Forbes and she penned a story titled “How We Are Travel Girls Built A Six Figure Business Empire” that helped us become recognized as a serious travel business. A lot of people see travel “influencers” as permanently on vacation, not working and living the life but that could not be farther from the truth. We work extremely hard (behind the scenes of our fun travel photos) to make We Are Travel Girls a profitable business so that we can help travelers, give back, and be in a position to withstand adversity such as lasting through a pandemic that brought the entire travel industry to its knees. The Forbes features that Alexandra included us in helped give We Are Travel Girls credibility and I will always be grateful to her for being such a big supporter of female entrepreneurs in the travel space.
