We had the good fortune of connecting with Kat Chacaj-Solis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kat, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I came from a corporate background and what I discovered when working for others was a lack of creativity and ownership over my work. It didn’t matter how hard I worked, my pay remained the same and that next raise or bonus was always just out of reach. I wanted to start something that reflected the amount of work I put into it.

The thought process behind opening my own business was to allow me to have the freedom, creativity, and ownership I craved, My business also allows me to be myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe I set myself apart because of my background in insurance and legal work. I have a degree in business with my minor in legal studies. I bring this into my business as I hold myself to a very high professional standard and come across as an authoritative figure. I also have training in other areas such as integrative health, which I bring into my profession. I believe in treating the body as a whole, which means when I treat a client’s skin, I look at their lifestyle, diet, etc.

I am most excited for my new podcast called “Esti Tea Talk” where I interview other entrepreneurs and ask them about the good, the bad, and the ugly of being a business owner.

Getting to where I’m at today has not been an easy path. I worked full time and put myself through school with 3 young kinds. I continued to work full time when opening my business taking clients evenings and weekends. Building a steady clientele can be tricky and time consuming. It’s hard to maintain hope and patience when you feel you aren’t seeing the results as quickly as you would like.

I would like people to know how hard I’ve worked to get to where I’m at. It’s not luck, its perseverance and courage. There are a lot of choices I made in life that were scary, but I went for them. Some worked, some didn’t. But I never gave up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the beautiful PNW where the forest is our playground. I would take them to see our amazing waterfalls, and a road trip through the wineries. We would stop at Stoller’s Estates to sample their wine and take in the view, and then continue the drive. I would also take them to our coast, but the less tourist spots that the locals know. The Saturday Market is of course a must see to really get the Portland feel.

In my view, the most fun, interesting, and exciting places are those that are naturally occurring like mountains, trees, rock formations, water falls, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my husband. He has been my biggest supporter and a rock. I know I can count on him when I am stressed, unsure of myself, or don’t know where to turn.
