Meet Dylan Stanton | Singer Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan Stanton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dylan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
From my perspective, any kind of venture in life is going to be a risk. It’s more about which risks you’re willing to take for a return of equal or more excellent value. In the short points of my life where It has been full of comfort and zero risk, I’ve found that my enjoyment of life drastically diminishes over time as I naturally started taking things more for granted. That’s when I realized it’s more about the process than the result. This idea made me eager to start venture onto projects like Midnight Milestones. Risk has become one of the driving factors of my motivation. Without risk there’s no reward.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Midnight Milestones is a project created by Dylan Stanton and Kenji Lancaster back in 2016. We’ve been friends for over 20 years now and have always shared a driving passion for writing and playing music. Midnight Milestones dives into the ideas of self-discovery through a manner of storytelling, visual arts, and various music styles. The biggest thing that differentiates us from others is how much vision we have for the band musically and aesthetically. A lot of bands just write their songs, go on stage and play their instruments but some of them don’t consider other aspects like how you dress, how you decorate the stage, your instruments, creating themes on social platforms, and building an entire world through your band. Whatever helps breathe more life into the overall experience for the listener.
Getting to where we are wasn’t the easiest road but it was definitely harder than it had to be. We’ve made countless mistakes throughout the writing process of our music as well as the production side. Another hill that we are beginning to understand more deeply is creating consistent content on online platforms. After talking to multiple artists varying from local bands to internationally known groups as well as our own experiences, we’ve found that the best way to overcome anything is with trial and error. Having a mentor can also help a lot.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of our favorite spots around the city include places like Taqueria Juanitos, which is this really good Mexican food on Grant Road. Dylan likes to go rock climbing at Rocks and Ropes and The Bloc. There are also nice outdoor areas like Tanque Verde Falls, and Madera Canyon which is a bit of a drive. Kenji regularly performs at The Century Room which is a nice jazz venue that is part of the Hotel Congress.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well one of the main sources of encouragement for us has always been our parents, especially when we were growing up having that need to please them. We could occasionally feel torn between following our passion and pleasing our parents (especially if they didn’t support our passion). We are fortunate, though, in that our parents have always been encouraging of our aspirations, which inspires us to work hard to achieve our goals.
