Meet Flash in the Past

We had the good fortune of connecting with Flash in the Past and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I went into this business thinking it would simply be a fun gift for a lover… it fooled me tremendously! Yes, it can make a great gift, but really, it’s a treat for yourself. I have regulars that call it their “therapy session”… it’s such a boost. You get to play dress up, feel confident, relax, get pampered, and show off your day… it’s just GOOD fun.
Clients do this for themselves, for lovers, for celebrations, for a fun challenge. Plus: you get some really fun, timeless photos of yourself to look back on!
I absolutely love what I do, which outweighs all the hardships of owning a very small business. I’m very fortunate to be able to do what I do for a living and will continue doing so as long as people keep booking! It’s quite a rewarding experience making people smile -literately!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One thing I love about the studio is it’s location. Downtown Tucson is definitely my happy place… clients can walk out the door and enjoy downtown after their session -plus they are dolled up already! I always recommend Hotel/Club Congress for drinks and overnight stays. The Cup Cafe to keep things simple -or- Maynards or Penca if you want to spruce things up a bit! Another favorite for drinks is the Owls Club. First Fridays burlesque at The Surly Wench is always a goodie for some risqué entertainment… or catch a live show at The Arizona Theatre Company or on screen at The Loft (east of downtown). Venturing out of downtown definitely requires a trip to Saguaro National Park, along with a pitstop at Mercado San Agustin.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Flash in the Past (FITP) pinups are definitely a team effort. My team is absolutely fantastic and I could not do what I do without them: Natasha Noir (lead hair and makeup artist), Kelly Estes (lead makeup artist), Donna Dungan (on-location assistant and makeup artist) are my core gals that have stuck with me since the start. It’s fun knowing that each of our branches of art combine and make an ideal pinup photograph.
A shoutout for a shoutout to Gabe over at Swank ‘N Jive! Gabe brews up our signature Winkwell pomade at the studio, he’s an absolute gem!
