We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Rosenfeld and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance has been a massive topic for me, especially recently. I think so many people have been reevaluating what’s important to them in the last few years since the start of the pandemic, and I’m so glad to see that happening. When I was in my early 20s, I was focused on work, climbing corporate ladders, and that success being my goal in life. Now, my life outside of work is so much more important to me and I prioritize downtime. I know it’s clique, but it’s true that life is too short, and you don’t want to look back and wish that you took advantage of those fun opportunities or wish that you spent more time with loved ones and doing things that you enjoy.
And if you are in a position where you have some sort of PTO, use those vacation days, and use all of them! If you can’t go anywhere, use that time for yourself and come up with a way to relax close to home.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It has been a long road to get where I am, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Okay, besides maybe realizing exactly what I wanted to do a couple of years earlier, but I wouldn’t have the experiences and knowledge I have now without going through that process. My first creative passion was photography, and I think that has brought me down so many fun and different paths that all played a part in where I ended up professionally. I now get to travel and share what I’m doing in many different ways. I have learned so much more than I could have imagined by getting out of my bubble and exploring the world. My goal with The Everyday Adventure is to help others realize that they can do the same. It wasn’t that long ago for me that I thought traveling abroad was something I would never get to do. I’m so excited to see where my business and I both end up in the future.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Arizona was a fantastic stop on my west coast road trip in November 2020 and I recommend it to anyone doing a similar trip. My visit started in Page, AZ to see the infamous horseshoe bend. I arrived late at night and had the best view of the stars on the way there. Somewhere with minimal light pollution is something I always get excited about being from just outside New York City. I had a quick dinner at R.D.’s Drive-In which was so delicious and did a little self-drive tour of the town. The next day was spent at Horseshoe Bend in the morning and The Grand Canyon at sunset. I couldn’t have asked for a better day. I spent the evening at the south rim, visiting various viewpoints along the ridge. Watching the sun go down beyond the canyon made it turn into the prettiest colors. I spent the night in Flagstaff and had the best tacos from Los Gordos Mexican Food. My last day in Arizona was spent driving down the iconic Route 66 toward California and stopping in historic Seligman to see what it had to offer. It was so fun to look at all of the memorabilia and, of course, check out the shops. I had the best time in Arizona, and I hope to return soon to see more of this beautiful state. I have my eye on Sedona next.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is always an easy answer, my mom. My entire life she has supported and been there in some way for every crazy idea, new passion, or whatever else I am up to at the moment. I wouldn’t have the feeling that I can do whatever I put my mind to without her constant support.
