We had the good fortune of connecting with The Fabulous Boring Brothers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The Fabulous Boring Brothers, what inspires you?
Our primary inspiration is our faith in Jesus. Music, when it is inspired, is something that comes from a more spiritual rather than physical, intellectual place. Other inspiration comes from the artists both musical and otherwise that we admire. We’ve gained a lot of lyrical inspiration from some of our favorite tv shows, film, classic literature. Musicians that we hold as inspiration include acts like Oasis, The Beatles, Radiohead, and Chris Cornell.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The element of our art we are most proud of is that we do not take shortcuts or chase trends. We write what we feel inspired and led to write. That obviously has it’s own consequences. It would make our journey to success much easier if we did what we thought would succeed rather than what we thought was artistically valuable, but I’m not sure we’re even capable of compromising in such a way. Our goal is to write music that is actively challenging to the listener both musically and lyrically, rather than music as a pure commodity.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We have a few favorite restaurants in the city. Il’ Primo’s is our favorite pizza place, and for sandwiches you can’t beat Hot Bagels. But, our all-time favorite restaurant is Top Shelf Mexican Cantina. Glen would take them to Seven Springs in Cave Creek to hike the trail to the hidden waterfall. Josh’ s favorite place in the city is his couch, but when has to leave it he loves going to thrift stores.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people in our lives who most deserve a shoutout are our mothers. Glen’s mother helped him through The Musician’s Institute, and was always his biggest fan and encourager. Josh’s mother, also Glen’s wife, sang to and with Joshua from a young age, and believed in their vision and talent. The day when she “signed off” on both of us pursuing our dream of being professional artists was a significant day in our musical journey.
