How do you think about work life balance?

24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week. Junior investment bankers regularly work 80-90 hours a week. Many other high profile professions require the same level of commitment. Often those on the outside claim that working 80-90 hours a week is bad/wrong/terrible/silly/etc but we’ve spoken with so many folks who say working that much has been the best decision of their life – it allowed them to develop a deep and strong skill set far faster than would have been possible otherwise. In other words, by working 2x the hours, they were able to generate 5x or more the rewards. And depending on where you are in your career, investing heavily in your skills and competence can pay dividends for a long time.

We only get so many moments in life, and trying to fit all the meaningful ones into evenings, weekends and two weeks vacation a year wasn’t cutting it for me. Achieving greater balance in my life was a big motivation for starting my own company, and it’s why I’m selective about the projects and clients I take on. I have been freelance modeling for over three years now, and within that time, my work life balance has never stopped fluctuating. When I began my career I wasn’t sure of what I was doing or how I wanted to pursue things, so I took things quite slow and always stayed open minded to new experiences. From being on three different dance teams, being on a varsity spiriline along with school and acting the past year has been pretty unbelievable. Surprisingly, I wasn’t too stressed as long as I find time for myself to relax. I also have a helpful calendar where I write down anything big, small or important that is coming up. I decorate it with cute calendar stickers and assign colors to each activity to make it more fun for me personally.
