We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Gettis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always loved photography and getting to capture special moments in people’s lives as well as create something with my camera. After a few years of learning and practice, I decided to try and make a business out of my passion. Sometimes things like that don’t work out but I am so thankful that this did. My business, The Finding Co., has been running successfully for about 4 years and I can’t wait to see what is ahead for us!
Getting to travel and meet new people and document some of the best days of their lives is something I quickly fell in love with and getting to do that for my job is such a blessing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been super creative, even as a child, so getting to continue to be creative in my profession has been wonderful. I am really proud of how I’ve taken my passion for storytelling and my passion for artistic photography and been able to build a business with them.

I would describe my style as earthy, warm, and full of emotion. I love to get all the little moments that some might overlook. I also really love editing with filmy and true-to-life tones.

Finding ways to bring creativity and beauty to ordinary moments is one thing that sets my work apart from others. I think I also give a good client experience. I love asking a lot of questions when I meet new clients and really getting to know them, their partner, their families, etc.

Getting to where I am took some time and some practice and I only hope to get better. I love learning and with photography, it’s an art that always has an opportunity for growth with new techniques, equipment, and trends. I don’t think I will ever get bored with it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
What a fun question! I would definitely take them to one or two of my favorite coffee spots. I love good coffee! No trip is complete without it. I don’t live far from some really neat places so I would suggest a hike, a day or two in the city eating at some of my favorite restaurants (Mexican for sure), and then maybe going to a movie or visiting some of my favorite small businesses. If it were in the spring/summer we would head to Lancaster County and visit some farmstands and get flowers and fresh produce to eat out on our back porch.

I love travel and a good drive so maybe we would also head to Brooklyn, NY, or the beach. Both are within 3 hours of me, so my husband and I like to visit them as often as we can!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shoutout to my husband and business partner, Mark. He has been so supportive and helpful with the start of The Finding Co. When I had a baby last year things needed to be reevaluated and I had to learn how to be a full-time mother as well as balance my business – he was great at helping me figure it out and stepping into places I couldn’t. I am also so thankful for the women in my life who have taught me things about owning a photography business as well as getting better at my craft. I have such an awesome community!
