Meet Andrea Pass | Public Relations Professional

We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Pass and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Throughout my entire career, my most important factor has been my authenticity. I am honest with everyone I meet and this translates to successful relationships with clients and contacts of Andrea Pass Public Relations.
While others in my field tell clients or prospective clients what they want to hear, I clearly explain the PR process, how it works, what is and is not attainable and how we achieve press goals.
I effectively communicate with my clients which is a key value in being authentic. I go above and beyond to secure media coverage (meaning editorial interview and mentions in print, broadcast and online press) to help brands increase awareness, grow thought-leadership and drive sales via earned press coverage.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I always loved public relations.
In school, I was oftentimes the PR chair of every committee. Upon graduation from college with a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Radio/TV/Film, I yearned to be the next Dan Rather. I went straight to CBS and, with a freeze in the broadcasting area, took a position at Woman’s Day Magazine. Once the freeze lifted, I moved to the Media Relations Department of the national CBS Radio Division.
I entered the agency side of public relations and worked for a number of New York City-area firms where I moved my way up to Vice President, Media Relations.
Business wasn’t easy. The clients appreciated all of my efforts and I formed a strong bond with each and every one of them. I had one boss who was an extreme challenge (to say the least). Nothing was good enough. There were never enough hours (even though I was in the office from 7am – 7pm and back on the computer immediately after dinner every evening). I was called on every vacation and couldn’t take a sick day.
I overcame the challenge by finally being strong enough to leave that situation. I moved to a Los Angeles-based PR firm where I worked remotely on the East Coast. That experience helped me grow and recognize that I am excellent at what I do and that I can be happy with a life/work balance while being appreciated for my expertise.
When I launched Andrea Pass Public Relations, I had my first client within days and a full roster of clients within six weeks. I’m proud of everything that I have achieved and know that each situation along the way made me the person that I am today.
I learn something new every day. I listen effectively. I research and secure consistent press coverage in print, broadcast and online media for my clients. I’ve learned to teach others and connect others. In business and in life, we are only as good as those around us.
Andrea Pass Public Relations is about growing businesses, services, products, authors, non-profits and more using an earned press coverage model – meaning that I drive sales by making sure my clients are featured in the media.
I do 100% of the work. I do not hire interns nor to I employee others. When clients work with Andrea Pass Public Relations, they are getting my experience, knowledge and work. They can count on me to get the job done successfully and effectively.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a Jersey Girl! That means the Jersey Shore.
There is nothing as relaxing as a day at Avon-by-the-Sea or a few days in Cape May, New Jersey.
When visiting Cape May, the oldest Victorian town at the furthest point south on the Jersey Shore, staying at a bed-and-breakfast such as the Bacchus Inn is a must. Mornings start with a bicycle ride to the Cape May Lighthouse and up and down the Boardwalk followed by a delicious breakfast at the Inn.
A beautiful summer day means a day at the beach, relaxing, reading a book, watching the dolphins swim by and enjoying the water of the Atlantic Ocean.
Delicious restaurants are part of the Cape May experience. The seafood is delicious. Cape May Fish Market, Icarra, Backstreet Simply Delicious, Sappore Italiano, Mad Batter and the Washington Inn are just a handful of the amazing restaurants Cape May has to offer. Make sure to take in a show at the Cape May Stages or East Lynne Theater Company.
Another benefit to the Cape May, NJ are the area wineries. Hawk Haven Winery and Turdo Winery are favorites offering tastings and relaxation in the vineyard.
While Cape May is approximately three hours from home in North Jersey, it is well worth the drive and always provides the best time ever!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my clients and business contacts who have helped me learn and grow throughout my career.
Many of my clients have given me the opportunity to increase their brand awareness via the press coverage I have secured for them. Those same clients supported me when I left a bully-boss situation and moved on. They gave me encouragement to eventually launch Andrea Pass Public Relations. In fact, they either came back to me for PR or referred others to me to help my business thrive.
I have been fortunate to be involved with an amazing networking community. A huge shoutout to those who have supported my networking group, Access Success Networking, and those who I have met through such organizations as NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners), N3 and Virtual Networkers, among others.
An extra-special shout out to John Yarrington and Tom Haire from The Performance-Driven Marketing Institute (PDMI) and Warren Tuttle from the United Inventors Association of America (UIA) who have supported and encouraged me to dream big and grow my public relations consultancy.
