We had the good fortune of connecting with Connor Legg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Connor, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was young, I enjoyed arts and crafts wherever I could find the opportunity. I found it to be a positive outlet for myself. I developed essential skills through the arts, such as creative thinking, problem-solving, observation, and self-value. As I grew up, I better understood the benefits that an artistic path would supply. A creative person can better grasp new viewpoints and possibilities and find avenues for more efficient understanding and problem-solving.

Additionally, pursuing a creative career allows me to stay true to myself as an artist. By painting or sculpting, I can express my interests, ideas, and concerns in a unique way that other people can then observe. A creative mind flows with concepts urging us to stay in rhythm to create, observe, think, and create again. I believe that an artistic career can not only grant me a path to be myself but also assist me in better understanding myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
First and foremost, I am an artist that includes nature at its core. From landscape paintings of forests and mountains to ceramic frogs and critters, my work’s essence aligns with nature. Ever since I was a kid, I have been fascinated with the outdoors, exploring an environment and learning all I could within it. I want people to understand nature’s beauty through my artwork, hoping this would spark interest in the care and protection of our natural world.

I am early in my creative career and have many steps ahead. There will be failure and success. I do my best to give myself the strength to continue down this winding path of an interest I hold close. I sell giclée prints (high-quality art prints) for a handful of my paintings. Later this year, I plan to start selling my ceramic work which includes frogs and mushrooms. I think that selling your work is something not many artists are prepared for. There is shipping, pricing, and marketing to consider. It has been a learning process, but I believe my creative skills could assist me throughout this journey. I look forward to each moment I arrive and what new creations come my way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would hit up all of my favorite places. I recommend Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company (Gilbert and Phoenix) for a juicy burger and gnarly beer. There’s a great selection of fun grub to munch on and excellent drinks for your meal. I recommend Kabuki Japanese Restaurant (Tempe) for a more refined and elegant food assortment. This is the best place to grab top-quality sushi in the Sonoran Desert. From thick cuts of colorful sashimi to a sweet and umami-filled bowl of sukiyaki, there is plenty of great food to choose from. As for places to visit, I recommend Desert Botanical Garden (Phoenix) and Boyce Thompson Arboretum (Superior). Both locations offer beautiful views of our Sonoran Desert and much to learn about plant species. When I travel, the two aspects I consider when planning an itinerary are food and viewpoints. I think these recommended locations would do great justice for anyone interested.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, my family deserves recognition for the support they’ve shared over the years for my creative journey. I then would like to take a moment to appreciate the artists I have met along the way, those I have grown alongside.
