Meet Iliana McKee | Freelance Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Iliana McKee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Iliana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Who doesn’t love the idea of being their own boss? I love being able to create and inspire without being told what’s right and what’s wrong. I feel that it brings a ton of stress and weight off your shoulders. I love having my own creative freedom and capturing what makes me, me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a photographer located in Goodyear who captures beautiful memories that will last you a lifetime! I’ve been in love with photography since I was young and have always dreamed of pursing this. I’ll say that getting started was definitely not easy, but I’m extremely thankful and blessed to have amazing family and friends that were willing to help out by giving them free shoots in exchange for some promotion on my business. While gaining more clients, I definitely had some learning experiences and bumps in the road, I reassured myself that I had God on my side and things would all fall into place.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some make Arizona sound very bland compared to other states. Once you find the right spots, you would love it here. Some of my personal favorites would be Pemberton or First Friday. Pemberton is always nice with its laid back atmosphere and outdoorsy nature. They have food trucks and places to catch up with friends or family! First Friday is also a good option, from supporting local small businesses to listening to live music. There’s a little something for everybody there!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My brother-in-law, Jeremiah and my mom. Jeremiah has always been one I could count on for advice, so I turned to him when I was conflicted and hesitant on beginning this. He always knew I wanted to pursue this and reassured me that I would succeed and pushed me to do this because he knows how happy it makes me. As I began, my mom pushed me along the way from planning, ideas and heartfelt conversations to her helping get me all the materials I would need. She has always been my biggest supporter through it all and I am beyond blessed to have her. Without her or Jeremiah, I don’t think I would be where I am today.
