Meet Alberto Alcocer | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alberto Alcocer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alberto, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I come from a largely artistic family and taught while very young that beauty is there, sometimes meant to be pursued but there, in the open. As a photographer I try to see as different as needed to find the beauty in every scene. Sometimes it’s just a quick glance, sometimes is a bit tougher, sometimes is a hard process, sometimes beauty is not just visual but a more complex sum of factors and helping others to realize it through photography is such a fulfilling job.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a travel photographer I try to study where I’m going to be as much as possible. Not only in books or travel guides, but by spending some time without my camera walking the most; trying to understand as deeply as possible where I’m standing at. Not just the places by themselves, but how the people who interact with them feel. This approach to a new (or known) place helps me take better photos, photos that help any viewer to connect deeper with what they are beholding, even when it might be several thousand kilometer of where they are at the moment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
From the whole week I spent in Arizona, I was able to spend so little time in Phoenix. It was just an appetizer for a future trip just to the city. So I have not many recommendations, and the ones which pop out are as follow: – Japanese Friendship Garden, such a cozy shelter from urban hurry
– Her secret is Patience, a quite unexpected sculpture, not just its size but the way it embraces the whole park
– Arizona Wilderness Brewery, after a whole day walking around with desert heat, you need end the day in a friendly, tasty and cozy waterhole, this is the place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My grandfather, Humberto. While very young I spent a lot of summers in his painting studio. Understanding color, visual perspectives, contrast, composition,… understanding the way we -humans- see and appreciate what we see. And inheriting a tough sense of “obligation” to share what we se as pretty.
