We had the good fortune of connecting with The Band Kris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The Band Kris, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
We never had a backup plan! We knew what we wanted to do since we were kids, so we’ve always been on the path of chasing this dream, so it was always a “keep going no matter what” mentality.
Plus, we named our band after our brother, who was a musician but passed away, so we’ve committed to not only pursuing this dream for us but for him as well. That’s the story behind our band name, ‘The Band Kris’ – we are letting his name live on through our music! He would be so mad at us if we gave up!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Being a sister music duo comes with the advantage of going through this entire journey together, feeling like we had this secret superpower of not being afraid to fail. For some reason, if your sister is next to you, the fear of failing isn’t really a thing, and rejection definitely doesn’t sting (as bad).
Being bandmates with someone who can read your mind makes it literally impossible to put on a filter in front of each other. If one of us is going through something, it means we are both going through something, which we’re sure other siblings can probably relate to! That always made the songwriting process really fun because we genuinely feel the lyrics we write as if it happened to both of us when, in reality, it was only one of us who got ghosted or dumped, or god knows what else we’ve written about!
We had this dream back when we were kids sharing a room, so the vision never shifted, and that really helped keep the dream alive. We never lost sight of our dream, so it didn’t matter if one of us was feeling defeated about a challenging experience, whether it was a bad performance or getting mean comments on a video, because, between the two of us, there is always one of us who can get our minds back on track. That has been a huge driving force for us. We owe it to each other to keep pushing through the challenges!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our mom! She has always been so supportive of our music from day 1. She’s the first person we would show our new songs to as soon as we finished writing one, and when something exciting happened for the band, she would have equal enthusiasm about it. She also carries a stack of our business cards on her at all times and never fails to introduce new people to our music. It means more to us than she will ever know.
