We had the good fortune of connecting with Roy DuPrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roy, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is not a one-time achievement for me but an ongoing process that requires consistent evaluation and adjustment. As professional demands change, it is necessary to reassess priorities and make changes to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Similarly, personal demands and responsibilities fluctuate, requiring flexibility and adaptability in managing one’s time and energy. Effective time management, having competent co-workers / team, creating clarity in roles, and optimizing every team members’ strengths is crucial in achieving my work-life balance. Making sure to carefully step into new professional demands as I forecast my personal life’s needs has been easier the as my professional career has matured. As my personal and family life has evolved I have become better at managing the evolving balance between company, personal and family needs. Factoring in owning and managing your own company often feels like your company is one of your own children. Like children, companies have developmental needs as the company matures over time. Starting the company before having children, offered me the opportunity to be fully focused on the start up and initial stages of building the company. My company’s two components, recovery and the outdoors, are what keep me balanced. Currently the company is more mature, many personal and professional lessons have been learned along the way offering coresponding growth. Parallel development managing my personal life and relationships has happened over the last 14 years. Managing my personal recovery is strengthened by my work offering the opportunity for recovery to others. Service is a significant pert of my personal life and practice in my recovery. I have the opportunity to serve through my professional life.

What should our readers know about your business?
Back2Basics Outdoor Adventure Recovery and Beyond the Basics Transitional Living Programs were started out of the passions I have and what kept me sober early in recovery. In some ways, I just put my mind to starting the program and did. I scraped together financing, put in sweat equity and it worked. Over the years I and the company have evolved. We prize ourselves in offering great residential treatment, solid recovery support and outdoor adventure. We help young men create a life in sobriety.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a creature of habit and when I have a week off I head to Ixtapa to surf in the mornings and evenings, eat yummy food and try to totally disconnect. This fills my cup and get back to it, recharged.
