Meet Donna Price | Dyslexia Specialist & Certified Adventures in Wisdom Coach™

We had the good fortune of connecting with Donna Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Donna, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The Heartbeat of My Success: Empathy and Compassion
For me, success isn’t just measured in numbers; it’s measured in the transformative impact I can make in the lives of our students. Empathy and compassion stand as the cornerstone of everything I do.
In my eyes, my business is not merely a service; it’s a ministry dedicated to providing unwavering support to children who grapple with academic and emotional challenges, particularly those facing the complexities of dyslexia. Dyslexia, a neurobiological learning disability, often leaves students feeling frustrated, ashamed, and, in some cases, utterly defeated.
Many of the students I work with have navigated years of struggle before receiving a diagnosis. They are not just learners; they are wounded learners. It is precisely at this point of vulnerability that empathy and compassion play their most pivotal roles.
Understanding the depth of their frustration, the weight of their shame, and the darkness of their depression, my mission is to meet them exactly where they are. These students aren’t just seeking academic assistance; they’re seeking understanding and connection in a world that may have failed them before.
In providing academic and emotional support, I strive to rebuild not just their academic foundations but their confidence and self-worth. My success is not just in decoding words; it’s in decoding the barriers that have held these students back for far too long.
Each student isn’t just a case; they’re an individual with a unique journey, and my approach is tailored to address their specific needs. It’s this personalized care, rooted in empathy and compassion, that forms the bedrock of my success. The joy of witnessing a once-frustrated learner transform into a confident, capable individual is the true measure of my achievement.
In essence, my business is a vessel through which I channel empathy and compassion to bring about positive change, healing wounded learners, and fostering success in every aspect of their lives.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Unveiling the Heart of My Business: A Holistic Approach to Dyslexia Support
My business is more than just a service; it’s a lifeline for families navigating the complexities of dyslexia. What sets me apart is the fusion of expertise, passion, and a personal journey that drives every facet of my work.
As a Kendore Certified Multisensory Structured Language Teacher accredited by IMSLEC & IDA, my approach is steeped in evidence-based practices. My commitment is to provide a multisensory, structured, and language-rich learning experience. This accreditation signifies not just competence but a dedication to the highest standards in dyslexia education.
A Holistic Approach:
What truly distinguishes me is my commitment to working on the whole child, not just their academic side but their emotional well-being as well. I understand that children can’t learn effectively if they are emotionally taxed. This is why I also became a Certified Adventures in Wisdom Coach™. I prioritize addressing the emotional aspects of a child’s journey throughout our time together.
Standing By My Students:
I stand by my students throughout their entire journey. My commitment extends beyond academics; I am dedicated to supporting the emotional growth and well-being of each child I work with. This holistic approach ensures that my students are not just academically successful but are also equipped with the emotional resilience needed to navigate the challenges they may face. I don’t rush the process. Every child is unique, and their journey unfolds at its own pace. I recognize that true progress requires time, patience, and a nurturing environment. My commitment is not just to quick fixes but to fostering lasting change.
My Brand and Story:
My brand isn’t just about dyslexia education; it’s a narrative of transformation. I want the world to know that I go beyond academics; I am an advocate for the overall well-being of every dyslexic learner. My story is one of turning challenges into opportunities, of resilience in the face of adversity, and of the unyielding belief that every child can thrive emotionally and academically with the right support.
In essence, I am not just a service provider; I am a partner in the journey toward unlocking the full potential of dyslexic learners, addressing both their academic and emotional needs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many breathtaking landscapes and diverse experiences in Arizona depending on the time of year that it’s hard to choose. However, if my best friend was here visiting for a week, here’s a possible itinerary that I think captures the essence of our great state:
I would begin the trip at the Grand Canyon hiking the South Rim to see the magnificence of this natural wonder. Then drive down to Flagstaff for a mountain experience and hike amidst the Aspen groves, which is particularly mesmerizing during fall. Then we would explore historic downtown Flagstaff and local eateries.
No visit to Arizona is complete without a visit to Sedona to see the vibrant red rock formations. We would take a hike in the iconic red rock canyons, such as Bell Rock or Cathedral Rock and of course, explore the artsy vibe of Sedona’s downtown area and finish the evening capturing a Sedona sunset. Or we might just journey to Oak Creek Canyon for a hike through wooded trails, such as West Fork Trail, and relax by Oak Creek and enjoy a picnic.
At some point, I would want my friend to experience a bit of the Western culture in Cave Creek for a taste of Western culture, attend the rodeo at Buffalo Bills for an authentic cowboy experience, and hit the dance floor for some country dancing.
Later in the week, if time allows and we were up for another major adventure, perhaps a visit to Joshua Tree near Palm Desert and experience the fascinating landscapes or perhaps simply a shopping experience in downtown Old Scottsdale.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A Heartfelt Shoutout to Those Who Paved the Way
If I were to extend a shoutout and share credit with those who have profoundly impacted my journey as a dyslexia specialist and mindset coach, it would be impossible not to start with my son, Jason.
Jason, My Inspiration:
My son, Jason, stands as the living inspiration behind my dedication to supporting families dealing with dyslexia. His own journey with dyslexia, officially diagnosed in middle school, unveiled the challenges and frustrations that many parents of dyslexic children face. Witnessing his perseverance and facing the hurdles head-on ignited a passion within me to make a difference in the lives of others who are on a similar path.
A Collective Effort:
Throughout Jason’s journey, we collaborated with a myriad of professionals – occupational therapists, speech therapists, reading specialists, and educational and neuro-developmental psychologists. Each played a crucial role in our quest for answers. While their efforts contributed valuable pieces to the puzzle, there remained unanswered questions, and Jason’s progress seemed elusive.
The Missing Link:
It wasn’t until we consulted with a Dyslexia Consultant in Portland, Oregon, Tamara Boring, that we uncovered the missing link. Finally, after years of searching, we had the answers we desperately sought, but the revelation came later than we would have hoped.
The Frustration that Fuels My Commitment:
The frustration stemming from the years it took to pinpoint the cause of Jason’s academic struggles and the toll it took on him emotionally fuels my unwavering commitment to assisting other families on their dyslexia journey. It’s a commitment to bridge the gap, provide timely support, and ensure that families don’t endure the same prolonged challenges we faced.
In the grand tapestry of my journey, each person, professional, and experience has played a crucial role. It’s with profound gratitude and a sense of responsibility that I dedicate my work to those who have shaped my story.
