We had the good fortune of connecting with JAIME SPENCER and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JAIME, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This is something I started serendipitously; it was a series of fortunate events that led me down this path. My final duty station of my Army career was an ROTC program at a local university. While stationed there the athletic director reached out and asked if I knew anything about competitive shooting. I told her I did! Her goal was to begin a competitive shooting team within the university. So, during this time I obtained instructor certifications on the civilian side to be able to lead and coach this team. Well eventually that fell through. Fast forward a few months, I was working on a cap stone project for my degree plan before I retired from the Army. I asked several entities if they needed someone to complete a project for them. One of the places I reached out to, was a local nonprofit training facility. They do a wide range of events; I figured I could manage ne of their events and meet the requirements of the capstone project. Well, they reached out and asked if I could run a carbine class for a local Sheriffs Dept. I though sure why not I can run a range in my sleep.
I poured everything I had into this one class. Towards the end of the class, the best shooter asked how often i do these classes. I told him I didn’t know because this was my first time. He was shocked, he mentioned I should do these more often, because he really enjoyed the class. His comments got me thinking, maybe this is something I should pursue. So, after turned int he assignment (I got an A) I filed for an LLC and made Caballero Dynamics a reality. It’s something that just sort of happened.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think what sets my company apart from others is that I focus on small groups of people. I will typically max out my class around 6 shooters, so this give my students a very intimate class and a near private instruction experience. There are tons of challenges, with this industry. One of the challenges is there are a lot of great companies and amazing instructors in this area. I guess something I learned early on is not to compete, sounds strange, but it works. With that being said, I just continue to focus on what I am doing and what my shooters need / want to do. There are plenty of problems to take care of within my business to worry about what the other guys are doing. I just try to focus on providing the best product and service I can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, this is San Antonio, so you have to check out the Alamo and the river walk. Those are a given. I would also take them over to the Pearl, lots of great places to eat and get something to drink. I love local places to eat off the beaten path, so I would have to take the to Pollos Asados Los Nortenos, literally the best BBQ chicken ever. You have to Travel outside the city to check out the Garrison Brother Distillery in Hyde Tx for some amazing Hill country bourbon. If during the summer months you have make time to float one of the nearby rivers. If you are wanting to get pampered, you need to check the La Cantera Spa

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to Mention Shawn Thorton in my shoutout. He is the owner of the range I utilize and a very successful training company. Not only has he provide an amazing training facility he routinely offers mentorship. All of which is greatly appreciated.
