We had the good fortune of connecting with Nirupama Mallavarupu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nirupama, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a Mother of young boys, several years ago, I wanted to stay in touch with school activities and meet the parents in my children’s school. At that time, there was no
centralized platform to manage all the school activities or reach a parent/teacher in
the school. This is why I came up with MobileArq, a mobile school directory to
easily get in touch with any parent/teacher/staff in the school.
I wanted to solve a problem for parents like me. In the process, I realized the best
way to do it was partner with the parent organizations in schools. That’s how
MobileArq got started.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I wanted to solve a problem for parents like me. In the process, I realized the best way to do it was partner with the parent organizations in schools. That’s how MobileArq got started. Parents in schools that have adopted MobileArq love the usefulness of this tool to connect with other parents in their school community. Thus, MobileArq has become a must-have daily tool for school parents. This is MobileArq’s 10th year in business and we have had schools/school districts continue with MobileArq for ten successive years.

The parent organizations save time and raise money easily with MobileArq.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend were to visit me in Summit, I would take them to the Summit downtown, the Reeves-Reed arboretum and the Visual Arts Center. We would grab lunch at one of the local eateries in Summit – we have some wonderful restaurants. We would also take them to NYC as it is only a train ride away. We would watch a broadway show and walk around time square and grab a bite right there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my late parents for giving me a great start in life. My mother was a pillar of strength and upheld strong values throughout her life in challenging circumstances.

The Indian Institute of Science was my first alma mater, and I am grateful for the education I received. I thank the Georgia Institute of Technology for providing me with a teaching assistantship during my Master’s program. My early mentor was late Prof. Karsten Schwan, who encouraged me to think big and aim high.
