Meet Pouono Valentino Malauulu | Bartender | Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pouono Valentino Malauulu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pouono Valentino, how do you think about risk?
In my life and career, risk has been a fundamental element, not just as a factor, but as a catalyst for growth and innovation. My approach to risk is shaped by my unconventional journey—dropping out of high school in the 11th grade propelled me into a world where taking calculated risks became second nature.
Starting in the tech field, where precision and innovation are paramount, I quickly learned that the risks I took—whether in learning new technologies or switching roles—often led to substantial personal and professional development. This early exposure to risk was instrumental, teaching me to weigh options carefully and make decisions that, while sometimes unconventional, were informed and deliberate.
The decision to transition from technology to bartending, and subsequently into digital marketing and content creation, was among my most significant risks. It was not a linear path and required stepping into unfamiliar territories with confidence and a willingness to learn. Each shift brought new challenges, but more importantly, it brought new opportunities to apply my skills in fresh, impactful ways.
In the realm of nightlife and digital storytelling, risk-taking has been central to differentiating the content I produce. From experimenting with new content formats to pioneering my own vision that were not the norm in the venues I worked, embracing risk has allowed me to deliver unique value and set new standards in every role I’ve been able to take part in.
My relationship with risk is defined by both intuition and analysis. I rely on my instincts, informed by years of diverse experiences, to identifying which risks are worth taking. At the same time, I use my analytical skills developed through my tech and marketing training to assess potential downsides and ensure that every leap is calculated.
Risk-taking has not only played a role in my career; it has shaped who I am today—a resilient, adaptable individual who thrives on innovation and is not afraid to step outside the comfort zone to achieve extraordinary results.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey to where I am today has been anything but ordinary. Being a high-school drop-out, to minimum-wage jobs then finding a stable career in tech to a complete 360 doing bartending, and eventually picking up digital marketing and content creation, it has been a lot! What I love about it is that it has shaped a professional path that is as unique as it is challenging. What sets me apart is my ability to blend diverse experiences into a cohesive narrative, where each skill and role enhances the other. This versatility allows me to engage with projects and challenges in a way that others might not, offering fresh perspectives and creative solutions.
I am most proud of securing my first-ever brand deal in late March of 2024, a milestone that marked a significant turning point for content creation. This initial success quickly led to the opportunity to sign off on two more brand deals within just three months of starting my content creation journey. This achievement not only validates my skills and dedication but also fuels my passion for continuing to innovate and engage with my work in meaningful ways..
Getting here was far from easy. The shift from tech to the fast-paced world of nightlife required quick adaptation and a steep learning curve. I had to prove that my unconventional background, degree or not brings value. The key to overcoming these challenges was a relentless commitment to learning more and doing more. I embraced every opportunity to enhance my skills, from formal certifications in digital marketing to hands-on experience in event promotion and content creation.
From these experiences, I’ve learned the invaluable role of resilience; it’s not just about bouncing back but also stepping up with renewed passion. Authenticity has been my guiding star; staying true to who I am and what I stand for has not only differentiated me from others but also fostered genuine connections with my audience, with customers, my peers. It really has shaped me for the better and I think about those two things all the time and how powerful it is to be that for yourself even when it does get tough.
I want the world to know that my story, my brand, IDGAFValentino, is about transformation and pushing boundaries. It’s a love letter to myself telling me that it’s ok if you’re different, it’s ok if you’re not where you want to be, it’s ok because you know you better than anybody else out there so rain or shine, go out there and EAT! Whether it’s something as simple as turning a nightly event flyer into a memorable 15-second creative story on social media through creative content or helping others see the potential in unconventional career paths, my goal is to inspire and ignite creativity. I believe in me and I am committed to bringing that power to everything I do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Huge shoutout to my Charlie’s Phoenix family! Joining the team there has been a turning point in my life, unlocking avenues of creative expression I never thought possible. The work is tough, demanding, and not for everyone, but it’s this very challenge that fuels my growth every day. Being part of Arizona’s largest LGBTQ+ bar is not just a job; it’s a privilege that pushes me to think bigger and more creatively, both for the bar and in my personal projects. I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity to explore and express my artistic freedom in such a dynamic setting.
