Hi Jenell M., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In reflecting on my journey as a childcare owner, it all began during a pivotal moment when I recognized a pressing need within my community. As a stay-at-home mom, deeply devoted to raising my children, I observed the challenges faced by friends and family members as they sought trustworthy childcare options while they pursued their work commitments. There was a palpable uncertainty among parents, a shared desire to entrust their precious little ones to someone they could rely on.

It was in response to this need that I opened my doors to care for their children at my home. What started as a simple act of support for loved ones quickly snowballed as more families sought my assistance. Before I knew it, I found myself on an unexpected journey, compelled to establish my first childcare center. From that moment forward, there was no turning back.

Since our inception in 2005, we’ve expanded to operate eight centers, each one a testament to our commitment to serving children and families. Armed with a background in business management and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, with a specialized focus on autism spectrum disorder, I bring both expertise and passion to our mission.

Every step of this journey has been driven by a deep-rooted belief in the transformative power of early education, particularly for those in underserved areas. Through our centers, we strive to provide not just childcare, but a nurturing environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.

As we continue to grow and evolve, I remain steadfast in my dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families, one center at a time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In our journey, my team and I have founded 8 schools, but currently, we operate 2 centers in the state of Arizona—one in Phoenix and the other in Mesa. At our centers, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional child care that honors each child’s individuality.

Through our experiences, we have encountered some of the most challenging moments. One such incident was featured on several local news stations, including ABC13, when our school buses, which provide complimentary transportation to students, were maliciously set on fire right in front of our school in the middle of the night. Despite this traumatic event, justice has yet to be served, and we are reaching out to the community for support in rebuilding our resources to continue caring for our families. Despite the adversity, my love for the families and children we serve keeps me inspired to remain proactive, innovative, and resilient.

Navigating the path to where we are today professionally has certainly been filled with obstacles. However, it is the unwavering dedication to our mission and the resilience of our team that has propelled us forward. Each challenge has taught us valuable lessons about perseverance, community support, and the importance of never losing sight of our purpose.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would want to show them the best of what our local community has to offer. As a local girl from a local spot, I have a deep appreciation for the unique gems right here in our neighborhood.

We’d start our day with a delicious meal at a beloved local restaurant like Popo or The Yard, where we can savor the flavors of our community and enjoy some quality time together. After fueling up, we’d head over to Westgate for some fun and relaxation. Perhaps we’d start with a friendly game of pickleball to get our energy flowing, followed by catching a movie at the theater for some entertainment.

For a bit of pampering and relaxation, we might indulge in a spa day if it’s a girlfriend getaway. Nothing beats unwinding and rejuvenating with a massage or facial. Then, to top off our day of relaxation, we’d visit one of my favorite local nail salons to treat ourselves to a manicure and pedicure. There’s something special about getting our hands and feet done while chatting and catching up.

Throughout the week, I’d make sure to showcase the vibrant culture and attractions of our area. From exploring local shops and boutiques to taking in the natural beauty of our parks and trails, there’s no shortage of exciting experiences to enjoy.

Ultimately, my goal would be to provide my best friend with a memorable and enjoyable visit, filled with the warmth and hospitality that our community is known for. Whether it’s dining at our favorite eateries, unwinding at the spa, or simply spending quality time together, I want them to leave feeling refreshed and inspired by all that our local area has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I must give a major acknowledgment to my children, who have been the driving force behind many of my career decisions. Their presence in my life has not only inspired me but has also shaped the direction of my journey as an early education entrepreneur deeply committed to serving children

Their support and encouragement have fueled my passion for making a positive impact in the lives of young learners. As I navigate the complexities of running multiple childcare centers, authoring a book about our adoption journey, and strive to create nurturing environments their presence serves as a constant reminder of the importance of my work.

Furthermore, I am grateful for the invaluable support of my family, friends, and colleagues who have stood by me every step of the way. Their belief in my vision and dedication to our mission has been instrumental in our collective success.

Additionally, I extend my appreciation to the educators and staff members who bring their expertise and dedication to our preschools each day. Their commitment to providing high-quality education and care enriches the lives of the children we serve and contributes to the positive impact we strive to make in our communities.

In reflecting on my journey thus far, it is clear that I am surrounded by a network of individuals whose contributions and support deserve recognition. Together, we are united in our commitment to shaping bright futures for the next generation.
