We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylee Ness and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylee, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
A quote one deeply resonates with has the power to suddenly shift mentality, broaden perspective and evoke inspiration. I often find myself reflecting on the words of Alan Watts, stating, “all that you see in front of you is how you feel inside your head.” The beauty of a quote is that its interpretation is dependent on the reader. The experience and specific lens a reader holds determines the elements of a quote that are more heavily drawn on, directing an individual and unique meaning. To me, this quote by Alan Watts is revealing the influence our mental states have on the way we view the world. We have all had days where every single thing seems to go wrong, and might that be because we feel poorly inside our heads and therefore emphasize or seek out the poorer parts of our day? On days where life seems blissfully intact, those poor aspects are more easily overlooked, and what we see in front of us is rich. This quote comes to mind when I am seeking out the negative, and feel to be stuck within a darker day. Recognizing this pattern through remembering this quote, prompts me to do or find something positive within my day. It reminds me to seek out the greater things in life and to see the beauty in front of me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There are some passions that can be fulfilled in solidarity. Some where meaning isn’t derived from progress or success, but simply by action. Finding the act that puts you into a flow state, transporting you into a novel place where time ceases to exist, can be a passion fulfilled simply through action. For me, growing up I learned quickly there were few things that would turn off my busy brain. I was ridden from anxiety in my day to day life, overflowing with worrying thoughts. I found those thoughts only dissipated during an act that transported me to a place where time ceased to exist: cooking. When cooking, I wasn’t overcome by a dread for the future or a rumination of the past, I was fully present. I wouldn’t reach for my phone for hours on end. I wouldn’t have a concept of time. I would have a clear and content mind focused on crafting a beautiful meal. There was a calm that ensued when I was cooking; a calm I rarely experienced. Although this act I found much fulfillment in solidarity, it wasn’t until I began sharing it that I discovered a commitment to pursue this passion outside of myself. With a love of writing and a desire to create, I came up with starting a blog to share recipes and discuss lifestyle health. A dream for anyone would be to bridge the gap between their passion and their career. I am currently closing that gap as the blog continues to grow. Whether your career is your passion, or your career funds your passion, it is not to be taken for granted. There is a great value in the things that eliminate time, clear our minds and make us feel full. If you haven’t already, I would encourage you to share your passion. Others will receive the great gift of an elevated you and the incredible product of your passion. Even more, if you bridge the gap between your career and your passion by making it profitable, then you might just be living the dream.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite weekend trip in Arizona starts off in the city of Page to tour the Antelope Canyons. The breathtaking, surreal views in these canyons are a must-see. After the ~1 hour tour of Lower Antelope Canyon, just 20 minutes away is the Horseshoe Bend, a scenic lookout spot with captivating views. About a 3 hour drive south of Page is the city of Sedona. Sedona illuminates with red mountainous rock, and is lively with endless restaurants and shops. There are a vast amount of trails and adventures to seek in Sedona, and always a view to take in.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My greatest supporters throughout any of my endeavors have always been my parents. The people who raised me to be motivated and driven. The people who exemplified hard work and resiliency throughout my life. Since The Wellness Craft launched, my parents have been a great resource of love, encouragement and guidance. My dad has proofread and edited almost all of my blog posts, and my mom will not meet a new person without telling them all about the blog. They have made me who I am today and are now supporting me in pursuing my passion. I take with me all of the amazing lessons they have taught me along the way and am forever grateful for their impact and presence in my life.
