We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Dominguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sierra, what are you inspired by?
I am always inspired by art, but more so, I am truly inspired by the “movement” of an object that could be turned into art. Whether it be the flow of water or hair, they way a certain texture/fabric might lay, the silhouette of a character or their outfit as a whole. Those are examples of every day things I that I might come across in every day life and suddenly I am inspired to paint, sew, fabricate, “create”.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I dabble in a lot of different art mediums, I wanted to find what suited me best and ended up trying out painting (mostly acrylic, but trying water colors as well), sewing (which started as a hobby for Halloween costumes and comic book conventions), jewelry making, but mostly for myself and lastly crafting/fabricating. I think that is what stuck with me the most and what I was best at, even if I didn’t have the knowledge at times, I’d figure out how to put something together and make it work- the true definition of “fabricating” to a T. Even though I am not doing anything with my hobbies professionally, I still hope to weave my hobbies & my job together in the future.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For breakfast I’d definitely suggest Joe’s Farm Grill in Gilbert, they have a wide selection or breakfast & lunch foods, plus drinks/coffee, so there’s something there for everyone. If you’re looking for a quick pick me up in the morning, there’s also Tres Leches Cafe, they have pan dulce and different coffees. Catch them during the holiday months and they have seasonal flavors as well. Plus I really like that they are involved in the community and occasionally do events/gatherings for good causes.

For an even walk, I like to do a full round through Cesar Chavez park around their man-made lake. I like seeing people walk their dogs, fish, cycle. The library is also nearby and they too hold events for the community such as BBQs, Car Shows and blood drives.

For night life, I love to go to Downtown Phoenix, there are many bars and venues that hold events during the weekends/nights. One of my favorite venues to visit is The Van Buren, they have themed dance parties and even live shows there.
If it happens to a night where there are no venue events, I like to hang out at Gracie’s. Gracie’s gives a more classy, chill vibe to “dive-bar” and it even has an outside/yard area where they have live music and events.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In dedicated of all the friends and family that saw my hobbies and inspired me to keep creating.
