We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Whitney Donohue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Whitney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Coming out of Naturopathic Medical school I knew that I envisioned healing differently than those around me. As Naturopathic Medical students, we already had a completely different view of medicine and what it takes to heal and how we can help people but outside of schooling, I spent almost every weekend learning even more modalities and ways of healing that truly shaped my vision. Due to this vision and what I knew to be true, starting my own practice was the only way I would see it come to life. As Naturopathic Physicians we learn to treat the root cause and in the process treat the whole person, that is ultimately what makes us different and wildly successful at treating things other aspects of medicine have fallen short on, however we still learn about the body and how to treat the body divided up into systems, as if they are separate. The body cannot heal when treated as separate pieces and parts and it doesn’t reach dysfunction separately either. What my extra time and training outside of school learning Applied Kinesiology, Neuro Emotional Technique other similar modalities taught me is that anything can cause anything and that every cell, organ, system, piece and part function together. They move into dysfunction together and they heal together. Nothing about the body is separate, nothing acts alone and nothing heals alone. This truth is the one thing that allows healing to be efficient and extraordinary. Starting my own practice was the only way I have been able to practice exactly what I envisioned health and healing to be. It took a few years to work through all the things I was “suppose” to be doing or what it was “suppose to look like” but when you stay the course on your vision, it rises to the surface. Without taking the leap of doing it on my own, I would have never been able to see the true power of the human body to heal. Ultimately the process was quite simple, I had to follow my gut and stay true to my vision and staring my own was the only way that would come to life.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Quantum Body Optimization, we focus on treating the whole person – physically, biochemically, emotionally and spiritually! We don’t chase symptoms or lab numbers, we treat the person. QBO aims at keeping active women, active, energized and pain free with natural pain and mind-body solutions. What sets me apart is that I work directly with the nervous system to figure out exactly what the body needs, when it needs it. I have a less is more approach when it comes to healing. Treatment sessions are super individualized to each person based on what their body needs and with that we can be really specific with treatment and supplements when they are needed. I am not a fan of huge treatment protocols and spending thousand of dollars on lab testing and supplements. If we can treat your body, correct imbalances and shift the nervous system into a healing mode and release stressors from the body, we make much greater impact on your health and healing.

The biggest lesson I have learned along the way is that the body knows best. The body is so incredibly powerful and it does no wrong! To get the most out of healing, we have to peel back the layers in the order and time that the body is ready for. Some layers peel back faster than others but when we listen to the body and provide it with what it needs, when it needs it and we get out of the way, as the biggest obstacle to our health is usually ourselves, the body has a profound ability to heal itself. With this, I have experienced some of the most miraculous healing not only myself but with my patients. You have to remember dysfunction doesn’t happen over night, therefore healing isn’t going to happen in one visit, healing takes time, but when you give the body what it needs, it happens much quicker.

What I am most proud of is empowering my patients to take control of their own health, educating them on how to optimize their health and give them a new perspective on what health and healing can be and love to see that they achieve it!! We have no idea how good we can feel until we start to make changes. Knowing that you made those changes, that you have control of the direction of your health, that is a very empowering place to live your life from. My goal, is for my patients to no longer need me, because they have the ability and skills to live their healthiest lives on their own!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best thing to do in Scottsdale is to EAT!! Fortunately most of my friends appreciate good food but also healthy food. The go to places are always for steak and sea food, as you get the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to staying on top of your health goals! Steak 44, Mastro’s, Eddie V’s & Buck and Rider are at the top of the list!! Love to watch the sunset at Isabella’s & see the art installations at AZ88! Also a big breakfast fan and my go to is always Butters!! Breakfast club comes in close second if were looking to walk around old town afterward! But I am always down for an adventure so taking the paddle boards out to the lake or down the salt river. A day trip up to Sedona and Payson for my favorite hikes and views! Also any place with live music and a great patio!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, absolutely! First shoutout goes to my Mom. She has been my biggest supporter and cheerleader since day one. There is no way I would have made it through life this far without her love and support! Knowing that you always have someone there no matter what, allows you to truly give your all, follow your dreams and leap as far as you can because they will always be there to catch you, encourage you and support you, no matter where life take you. I love you so much Mom!!

The second shoutout goes to Dr. Rhonda Steinke! She has been my mentor going through school and into practice. I appreciate her guidance on all things from medicine to business & life! She has also become such a great friend. I’m not sure I would be where I am today without her support over the years and encouragement to continue to follow my vision. She saw something in me that I didn’t know was there, without pushing me, she slowly showed me the power of my own gifts and how I was meant to help people heal. I appreciate all the love and support!

My last shoutout is to all my fellow AK and NET docs who have become such great friends over the years. We might only see each other once or twice a year but the bond we share tied by the knowledge and tools we have been so lucky to learn, has made this journey far less lonely! Being able to connect with other doctors/friends who understand how your brain works and know the power of what you do is something that allows us all to keep going. We all breathe so much life into each other and our work that allows us to keep helping as many people as possible, with our highest selves.
