We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard A. Pines and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard A., what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
RicMel Productions is based on telling stories of injustices. Two films that I have produced Apache Girl and Cochise Legendary Warrior tells stories of the atrocities committed against Native Americans in the late 19th century. I am presently doing a film entitled Ana May Wong to bring to light the discrimination she faced with legislation in place at the time which prevented her from securing the roles.

The reason I pursued an artistic and creative career is to be able to tell stories stories that can educate people Through the use of documentary films.. space. I think it’s important that we keep an eye on what happened in the past, so we cannot repeat these. measures which cause some people. their lives. and or livelihood.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Never surrender or never give up. I know that sounds very cliche, but Rick Mel Productions is a two person team, myself and my wife. We basically shoot with no budget, but we do bring stories to life. All of my films have garnered multiple awards throughout the film festival circuits. We are not in this for the money or the prestige, just to get the information out on good solid films that tell a story of actual events.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the Tucson area, I would bring them over to old Tucson Studios to get a taste of the old West. I also would visit downtown 4th Ave always a great place to go.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My beautiful wife, Imelda Paclibar who has been my lead actress in all three films.
