Meet Chad And Erin Romanoff | Restaurant Owners

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chad And Erin Romanoff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chad and Erin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factors regarding the success of the uprooted kitchen would have to be quality of ingredients and customer service. We pride ourselves on sourcing and serving really high quality plant-based organic items in our restaurant. We make everything in house with a lot of intention. Each ingredient has a purpose when chosen for a dish. Our menu is focused on health and enjoyment of eating – so every part of the meal is really important. Our customer service is right up there with the quality of our food. We pride ourselves on personally knowing each and every customer that walks through our door. If we do not know a customer, we take the time to get to know them. We provide a positive environment for people to meet each other, share thoughts on food, and nourish themselves. Our employees and customers have commented that it’s like cooking eating in your mom’s kitchen. It feels that comfortable 😉

What should our readers know about your business?
There are many things that set the uprooted kitchen apart from other restaurants, but the one factor that stands out is the fact that myself (Erin) and my husband Chad are always at the restaurant. I run everything that takes place the food in the kitchen, and Chad takes care of all front-of house and business operations. We work really well together, knowing our roles. We are together everyday, all day and rely heavily on communication. This committed teamwork has absolutely been a major factor in our success. We have learned so much over the 12 years of being small business owners. It is one of the most challenging things someone can take on in life, but we have learned to not take things too seriously. There have been so many bumps in the road. With each one, we get better at putting things into perspective. We know how lucky we are to own our own business. It is a gift and an honor to do what we do. We feel like any challenge that comes our way is possible to overcome. The uprooted kitchen brand was built by the two of us without any really business experience. We are just two people with a passion for food and community, and wanted to share what we do best.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The uprooted kitchen is located in Gilbert, so that is where we would focus our time. We love Gilbert for its beauty and it’s small town feel. We would start by showing our guest around Agritopia (the home of our restaurant and where we live). We would walk around the gardens and the farm to show them how amazing produce can be grown in the desert. We would definitely eat at Fire and Brimstone for lunch. They have an amazing vegan pizza that we helped create. After pizza we would show them the other businesses located within Barnone (one of those being our restaurant). Barnone is a group of small businesses that were chosen because of their creativity. Cream of the Crop is a must at Barnone as well, with really creative ice cream flavors. We would then stroll over to the Epicenter, which is also located in Agritopia. Epicenter is another amazing group of small businesses that has a bit of a downtown feel. My favorites over there are Source, for Mediterranean food and Peixoto, for coffee. We love the outdoors, so we would definitely visit the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert as well. It is a beautiful outdoor space with small trails and water basins. You can see a variety of birds and other wildlife. It is quite a little desert oasis in our town. Downtown Gilbert is alway another amazing place to explore. There are restaurants, outdoor spaces, a farmers market, a local theater, and so much more. We feel lucky to live and operate our business in a town that values small businesses.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The uprooted kitchen customers are 100% the reason that the we have been in business for 12 years. We operated as a food truck for four years, and now a restaurant for eight. We have a unique customer base, who seek out food that not only tastes good, but nourishes their body. Our customers thank us on a daily basis for doing what we do. All of the gratitude and encouragement keeps us going, in an industry that can be very challenging. The uprooted kitchen would not exist without our kind and generous customers.
