Meet Hayden Van Hulzen | CEO & Founder of HVH Media & Marketing

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayden Van Hulzen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hayden, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has changed over time because I’ve been forced to make changes (and I am so grateful).
There was a time in my life where I equated the hustle and pushing past burnout as resiliency. Ignoring your body’s innate triggers to alert you to rest, is not tenacity, it’s abuse.
For very many years I pushed myself past the brink and my body kept the score. I think the healthy balance that should exist with work, starts within ourself.
After hitting cortisol highs that would concern anyone and finally medically needing to address my own drive, I realized that working smarter and harder isn’t always the remedy and the best entrepreneurs find a way to work mostly smart with small sprints of working hard.
This is the new approach that I have applied to my business life and I feel more balanced and successful in the process.
There are always so many contributing factors that play into imbalance and I realized that when we allow ourselves to have imbalance, we leave ourselves even more susceptible to being taken advantage of. It’s a negative slippery slope and a poor fad mindset that we need to do away with.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
HVH Media & Marketing is a full service marketing agency that focuses on social media marketing as a fundamental foundation for building brand awareness and conversions. I think in a market that is becoming increasingly oversaturated, we stand out because we harmoniously apply pragmatism and just the right amount of unconventional marketing for differentiation, that we are able to yield what matters most – results!
There are some things about business that are easier than others but business, in general, is not for the faint at heart. Each season of business brings new challenges and obstacles to overcome. I think the most important part of our brand story is that when these obstacles arose, we overcame them, and that resiliency tells a lot about our character and capabilities.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was staying for a long weekend, I would. have her stay at one of these places:
Global Ambassador
The Camby
The Princess
We’d do Pilates at Get It Movement
We’d do breakfast or brunch at Francine’s or Buck & Rider
We’d have dinner at J.T. Prime Kitchen & Cocktails, COURSE, Wrigley Mansion, Shinbay, and Cafe Monarch
We’d go to the Spa at The Princess, CIVANA, or Sanctuary
We’d walk around Fashion Square and then hit up my buyer 5th Avenue Hustler with our needs
Of course I would have to squeeze all of these items around my kids busy schedules and family & business priorities. But these are the top places that I would recommend in my city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father and my husband. They consistently show up for me and support me in a multitude of ways.
Mercedes Escobar has been an instrumental hire and played a key role in restructuring my business for the better. I am truly grateful for the role she plays and her work ethic.
I love Dan Martell’s book “Buy Back Your Time” and all of the incredible mentors that I am blessed to be surrounded by. Having access to remarkable people is a game-changer.
