Meet Danielle Halbe | Owner Green Acres Farm AZ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Halbe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We have a property of 5 acres that we are slowly turning into a farmstead/Homestead in Coolidge AZ. The goal was always to be as self sufficient as possible on our own. Meaning we try to grow our own food in our gardens seasonally, we raise and process our own meat and poultry, and of course we cook most of our food from scratch without preservatives. The best part is the Bread! I fell deeply in love with all things sourdough and immersed myself.
I always had a dream to have a roadside honesty box AKA a farmstand. Turns out we live on a really busy popular road that is highly traveled. I went and found a cabinet and refurbished it and low and behold the farmstand was born! What I didnt know is what a community sensation it would become. There was no plan just a dream.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is artesian sourdough bread. It is the oldest leavened bread that exists going back to ancient Egyptian cultures and possibly longer. The bread itself long ferments for over 18 hours using naturally occurring yeast collected from the air in what you call a starter. Starters can be dried, kept, and handed down for generations. We are the first honesty box farm stand in our community. We offer bi monthly bread drops out of the stand, fresh eggs from the hens we raise, fresh jam from our pomegranate trees, and honey from the bees in the back of the property who forage the local farm fields. The stand utilizes a cash box and QR payment codes and the integrity of the people in our town to pay for what goods they take. We got to where we are as a brand by providing great homemade goods, open communication on our community groups and forums, word of mouth by the people who love our stand and the experience it provides, and not to mention the bread I make is delicious and good for your gut health. We want the world to know there are still good honest people out there who do the right thing and want to support their small communities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Arizona is such a beautiful state with so many hidden treasures. The little town of Superior is really awesome! Check out Boyce Thompson Arboretum, grab some lunch and Bellas Cafe. Hit up Sedona and go experience the vortexes and culture the red rocks provide. Go see the Salt river and experience the horses, or maybe a party day and go for the tubing!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many influential people in my life that inspired me, pushed me to make the jump, and share my homestead goodies with the world. First is my husband Nathan without him, his endless work ethic, and always being willing to jump to any crazy project I come up with. My Instagram girly Heather that runs Spellbound Sourdough! She is so inspiring and always willing to share her tips! She has been a great mentor and friend. Last without my local community Cooltown! Without their support and honesty the farm stand wouldn’t be such a local treasure it is.
