Meet Tommy | Creative Director & Video Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tommy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tommy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ultimately, it came down to one simple question: Why not now?
I’d been doing freelance video production for about seven years, starting in middle school and continuing through high school and college. As I approached graduation, I began weighing my options. I applied for a few agency jobs, but none of them felt quite right. Nothing really sparked that excitement or drive in me.
That led me to zoom out and think more long-term: Where do I want to be in 5–10 years? I knew I wanted to build a future that included marriage, family, and meaningful work. And I realized that I was in a rare window of life – with fewer responsibilities and minimal financial pressure – where I could afford to take a risk.
So I made the leap. I launched Firesong Creative LLC and began promoting it through social media. A few early, consistent clients helped me cover expenses, and from there it snowballed. I’m blessed to be one year into the journey with promising signs of continued growth ahead of me!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At its core, my art is storytelling through video. I’ve grown from just being the guy who hits record to someone who crafts moments that feel cinematic, emotionally resonant, and true to the brand or person being featured. What sets me apart is the blend of strategy and soul: I care deeply about the creative, but I also think like a marketer. Every frame shouldn’t just look good – it should work toward the client’s goals.
I’m most proud of how Firesong Creative has become a reflection of both my creative vision and the values that resonate deeply with me. Whether it’s a brand launch, a story-driven commercial, or a heartfelt community piece, I love turning ideas into powerful visuals that make people feel something and take action.
Getting here was a long process. I’m a firm believer there’s no such thing as overnight success, and my story is no exception. I started making videos in middle school, slowly building up freelance work over the years. There were plenty of moments where I felt stuck or unsure if I was doing it “right.” What helped me push through was simply the decision to keep showing up, even when it felt like no one was watching.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that consistency beats intensity. It’s not about one viral moment – it’s about building a reputation over time through quality, integrity, and relationships. That’s what Firesong stands for: high-end, human-centered video work that elevates the brands and stories we tell.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know, it’s this: the greatest success and fulfillment – both in life and in business – comes when you stop focusing on yourself and instead focus on how you can serve others. What cuts through the noise today isn’t just flashy content – it’s authenticity, intentionality, and sacrificial love. Real, human storytelling is what I strive to bring into the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man, let’s start with food – a couple of my favorite places are The Beach House for some of the best fresh tacos you’ll ever have (American tacos, not necessarily authentic if that’s what you’re going for), or YC’s Mongolian Grill for a delicious and massive build-it-yourself bowl. Dilla Libre is also a fantastic spot in the Scottsdale area… there’s so much good food here in the Valley I could go on forever.
As far as unique things to do, Bam Kazam is a human puzzle arcade like nothing I’ve seen before and is a great time with friends. Or I love a good country night out at Buffalo Chip or Roadrunner Saloon for some bull riding and music. Or, if you’re outdoorsy, the Superstitions are out of this world beautiful and fun to explore or swim in Canyon Lake.
There’s always something going on here, it’s one of the great things about Phoenix.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out my family for always supporting my dreams and celebrating my wins with me, and all of the mentors who have helped me hone in my creative skills and taken chances on me.
