Hi James, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success and growth of Waterloo Turf Scottsdale is a relentless focus on high-quality products and high-quality installations. The majority of our leads come from satisfied customers that in turn recommend us to their neighbors, friends, and family. Being part of a national brand gives us a tremendous advantage to work with the top manufacturers to source the best material for landscape turf, putting greens, and commercial applications. We hold ourselves to a higher standard with strict installation procedures on every job.

What should our readers know about your business?
Waterloo Turf Scottsdale exists to solve a real problem for homeowners and property owners in the desert Southwest—how to enjoy beautiful outdoor spaces without the constant water waste, maintenance, and frustration that comes with natural grass in Arizona. What sets us apart is that we don’t just install turf; we design, engineer, and deliver outdoor solutions that actually perform in our climate.

From day one, our focus has been on premium materials, elite installation standards, and an exceptional customer experience. In this industry, product quality matters—but installation quality matters even more. We’re proud of our obsessive attention to detail: proper base prep, drainage, seams, edges, and long-term durability. Our goal is that every project still looks great years down the road, not just on install day.

Getting here wasn’t easy.

Like most real businesses, growth didn’t happen overnight. We faced the same challenges many service companies do—educating customers in a crowded market, competing against low-quality installers, managing operations, and earning trust one project at a time. The turf industry has a low barrier to entry, which means homeowners often get burned before they find the right company. That reality forced us to raise our standards even higher and let our work, reviews, and referrals speak for us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Scottsdale is a great city to host friends and family from out of town. Especially if they’re flying in from snowy weather! During the day guest enjoy hanging out in the pool or playing a round of golf. Going out for dinner in High St or Old Town is also a must!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout our dedicated installation team and sales department. Both our foreman and sales manager have over a decade of local turf experience under their belt and have been invaluable to our growth and in exceeding customers’ expectations. These guys are playmakers! Can’t thank them enough!
