Meet Dhaevis Rayne (SugaarTooth) | Freelance Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dhaevis Rayne (SugaarTooth) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dhaevis, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Being genuine and making art that I WANT to make. I struggled with people telling me that the only way my art was going to get noticed was if I followed trends and hopped onto bandwagons. While I still find myself participating in some of the new art trends, I don’t rely on it. I had to really tell myself that my work is good and that the people who like it, will genuinely like it! I don’t HAVE to do what everyone else is doing to be popular but it’s okay to follow trends if I find something fun!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art tends to lean more on the “cutesy” side of things. Getting started was super scary and difficult but I’m so glad I did it. Opening a shop was something I’ve always wanted to do but was soooo scared of failing. I didn’t think anyone would support me and that I would end up wasting time and money. I was wrong! There are more people who will support you than you think, you have to keep that in mind. I hope my art reaches people across the world one day
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely downtown Tucson. There is so much art down on 4th Ave that I think everyone should experience. I grew up going to punk shows down there and it’s changed so much since then. Every year it looks different. AndGallery has become one of my favorite places because they showcase so many amazing artists. For food and drinks, I have a huge spot in my heart for Cafe Passé. The people who work there are incredible and they deserve so much more credit for what they do.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I was lucky enough to be surrounded by a lot of super talented creatives here in Tucson. Savanna Roth of @Clay_baes & Hanna Stoner of @Welcometothehanniverse were both huge mentors to me when it came to trying new things. They always pushed me to work outside of my comfort zone and lifted me up when I needed encouragement. I wouldn’t be where I am without their love and support!
