Meet Todd Langford | Owner…Chequest Millworks

We had the good fortune of connecting with Todd Langford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Todd, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I share my story…with everyone who will listen. And then…I ask them to tell me theirs. I love people and talking with them and making friends. My “client base” doesn’t grow in numbers, my circle of friends do. I honestly think our foundation of success is based on our genuine desire to create lasting friendships.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Straight from high school to the US Air Force, absolutely loved the military. I was surrounded by an ocean of talented and courageous men and women for 26 years. From the first day to the day of retirement you are taught how to lead as well as how to follow. After being immersed in an incredibly robust world of infrastructure that supports the “mission”, it was a profound shock to become a small business owner. Overnight, you are everything that binds the business together. It was very challenging moving into a single-point-failure position from the world of triple redundancy. It took a few years before I was comfortable enough to allow the business to begin to grow. And now, with our business growing very quickly, I find it more than a bit terrifying at times to think about what success can bring. But, our team is awesome, and I find strength daily because of them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, they would have to bring boots and gloves and go to work with me. After working them all day, we would stop and eat dinner at JD Campbells on 91st Ave and Pinnacle Peak.

Other than that, we would hang out in our backyard and talk till 2AM every night.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Top of this list…my family for supporting me for launching this crazy different second career. After 26 years in the United States Air Force, I tell my wife I’m going to buy a sawmill and open a custom woodworking facility. Even further back in my timeline, my Grandfather and my Father laid the foundations of working with my hands to create beautiful things. And it all starts with a handshake and a hello, my Mother taught me to be outgoing, friendly and respectful. Fast forward to the now, I own a debt of gratitude to my team members for their willingness to constantly learn and challenge themselves to create incredibly beautiful heirlooms.
