We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Loshikian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, how does your business help the community?

As a financial advisor, finance super mom and vision planner, the work I do makes a huge impact on the lives of my clients. Allow me to elaborate. I’m a first generation Armenian woman here. Growing up was different, but I wouldn’t change my experience for a second. I’m sure others with similar backgrounds can relate. With the work I do now, looking back I wish there was someone like me to help be a resource to my family and others in the community. Life is unpredictable. If these last few years didn’t prove that then I don’t know how better to put it. Between the cultural differences growing up here in the states and the turbulence that has been life these last few years, it became even more evident to me that my purpose in my professional career was to be a resource to others on their long term plan so they felt prepared and not powerless during unpredictable times. I speak from personal experience. I was a career changer and dove into entrepreneurship, became a single mom in the process, helped (and still continue to) help my family navigate through a lot of day to day projects including helping with my disabled father, all in the midst of a global pandemic. Just to name a few…..I should literally be the poster child for having a plan.

I knew I needed to use my knowledge, voice and experience in the financial planning field to help educate people on the power of planning because we need to be ready to pivot when life throws us curve balls so we feel prepared and not powerless. That is why the foundation of my business is built on the philosophy that we should be planning not only for the expected, but the unexpected as well. I didn’t plan for any of these things to happen these last few years, but they did. There is so much information and resources at our disposal and what I have found over the last few years is that many people just don’t know that they have those resources. Because of this, so many are left unprepared during times of disruption in their lives. My mission is to help educate and empower individuals from all walks of life feel secure in their plan and their vision for the future. I am most passionate about helping women and parents because I want women to feel self-sufficient, financially independent and most of all value themselves so they can feel secure and have options, not feel restricted. Many of the things I educate and help my clients plan for are things I’ve personally experienced. I get it on a personal level and if I can help others not have to feel the burdens I have, I will.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I’m a Vision Planner! So what does that actually mean? To be specific, I am a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual. I love this company. I’m so proud to be here. But what do I do that sets me apart…..I want you to take an active role in your vision and I am here to help you along the way. It is about progress, not perfection. My client’s tell me I’m very easy to talk to and that they feel comfortable with me. That touches me so much because I want them to feel so good about their future and their financial picture- something that many people have a lot of anxiety and uncertainty about. When I start working with someone after we’ve worked on customizing a plan specific to their unique goals, I GET to stand by them along the way for the rest of their lives. This isn’t a one and done deal. No, you’re stuck with me! But I think that’s why my clients work with me too. If they’re going to have someone by their side to help them with navigating through their biggest life changes and experiences, they chose me to be that person. My heart is full! Each interaction and conversation means something to me. I want my clients to feel excited about their vision. I want them to feel a sense of security knowing they can call me when they need me to help them through life’s ups and downs.

Getting to this point was not easy. Nothing rewarding ever is. I knew that from the beginning but it didn’t scare me away from taking this opportunity. I was and still am dedicated into putting in the time and effort in building my business and brand. I have so much more work to do and so many more people to help and lives to make a positive impact on. I’m not going anywhere. My story is just beginning.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Where do I start?! I have a few people that deserve mention here. I’m so incredibly grateful to have had the best support system the last few years. During my hardest times, these people never gave up on me. Instead they embraced me even more. I don’t know what I would have done without them!

Alberto Portela- Mentor, Managing Director, and Really Amazing Human Being – Al gave me the best opportunity of my life and brought me on to his team a few years ago. He’s always believed in me and supported me through my hardest times. He never misses an opportunity encourage and inspire me. I’ll never forget the day I told him about when I felt like my life was falling apart. I was so new in the business and to throw another curve ball into the story I was facing some difficult life changes at home. That was one of the hardest points in my life. He stopped everything he was doing and sat and talked with me. He offered me advice and put me in touch with people who could help me. He never once thought I’d fail. He’s helped me become the person I was always supposed to be. He’s been a real pivotal presence in my life. I’m forever grateful for him. Thank you Al!!!

My immediate family- As a single mom I am so lucky for my own mom and my sister. Any time I have needed a hand or needed to study for an exam to further develop myself in my career, there has never been a question that I could lean on Janna and Christina. They’ve been some of my biggest cheerleaders and supporters. We will always have each other’s backs no matter what.

Leslie Jespersen- friend and coach. This woman helped me realize my own confidence and voice! She’s encouraged me to speak about my story. Before I started working with her I was so timid to even share any of my personal experiences. Now I can’t think of any other way. She’s helped me tap into my purpose on a deeper level. I’m so grateful to have her in my life and work with her.

Friends and colleagues in my life (so many to name) who have been my rock and always there for me, cheering me on, making me laugh, supporting me, and believing in me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
