We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan Rae Shaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meghan Rae, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up I’ve always loved taking photos. I have a pretty large family (5 generations). I’ve always been the one to capture beautiful moments at all family gatherings and bringing the family in for family pictures. I print them and provide copies to family who either wasn’t there or like my grandmothers, they don’t use modern technology. So I wanted to create my own business because I love capturing moments that captivate the heart. It brings people together. It’s a memory that will last a lifetime. It will always be there even when the ones we love are no longer there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of myself for believing in myself that I could be a successful photographer. It came with challenges of self worth. To never compare yourself to others and always give yourself time to learn and grow. You must learn to be confident in what you do and remember all the reasons why you love what you do. With every client of mine I make them feel valued. I value what is valuable about them. The photoshoot is about them and their story. I help them feel comfortable and confident. it almost feels like I’m not even there working, we’re there to have fun and to capture beautiful moments.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say I would take my friends to a week long trip in Las Vegas. Sure, there’s gambling and bars, but there’s sights to see, interesting coffee shops, and just things that you don’t get to see in a small town like where I’m from. We would find water and fountains. We would go see the lights. We would drink coffee at the coolest coffee shops in the area. And we would capture quirky photos at every single spot!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shout out to Jordan Matter. He’s brilliant. I admire his positive energy, creativity, and success in the photography industry.
