We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosilind “Rosie” Hooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rosilind “Rosie”, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I launched Marksman Signing Agency at the start of the COVID Pandemic due to limited access to Notary services. The only Notary that I used previously was located within my bank. Once COVID was in full swing, the majority of banks had closed their doors, and refused to notarize anything that wasn’t related directly to a bank advantageous financial transaction. Once I began my notary journey, I began to look at ways to maximize my notary commission and completed the training to become a Loan SIgning Agent. Through learning this, I found out how many different niche offerings there are to notaries I decided there needed to be at least 4 opportunities to make money within the company: Loan Signings, General Notary Work (Power Of Attorney), Fingerprinting and Inspections (Home, Auto, & Commercial). While exploring all of the options available I also decided to increase my depth of learning and invested in my company to become a white glove private wealth notary for my ultra-high wealth signing opportunities. Fingerprinting is an emerging industry and usually local law enforcement handled this for the public to assist with issuance of a AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card for multiple employment purposes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have over 20 years of hands-on experience in Banking, Insurance, and Telecommunications with Sales and Customer Service roles with multiple Fortune 500 rated companies. Starting off with very customer centric companies like SBC (Now AT&T), USAA, AAA, Toys-R-Us, ONStar(EDS) and Best Buy, as a service agent in most cases and ending in training and data testing for regional platforms. This laid the groundwork for the eventual growth of my own sibling companies currently. There is also Fraud and Banking background for me, as well, with Sterling Bank & Trust (now closed) and Bank of America in their Credit Card and Fraud Prevention departments. In these related roles, I learned how to skip trace, detect false/misleading information, and was empowered to make credit determinations based on business goals and objectives all while working within stringent Federal guidelines. The latest portion of my career was spent as an National Property and Casualty Insurance Producer for companies such as Auto Club Group (AAA Regional), USAA, and Liberty Mutual where I was provided a wealth of knowledge and experience that is proving invaluable. Knowing lender requirements and standards that align with the mortgage industry has given me knowledge that has assisted me through numerous transactions. All of this while managing a blended family and attending classes at University of Michigan and later Rio Salado here in Phoenix. Trying to balance life, work, family and school wasn’t the easiest path to entrepreneurship but it has made for fantastic stories to tell my future grandchildren.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots around Phoenix are all food related. The Churchill in Phoenix is always an amazing time with a bar, games, multiple restaurants and usually a DJ. While I am not a hiker or outdoor-sy type I won’t hike, I will drive to the lookout point near the top of South Mountain at dusk to watch the city light up, and it’s a beautiful sight to see. Papago Park and downtown Tempe tours would be on the agenda as well, Detroit Coney Grill is also one of my favorites. I also enjoy networking with Local First Arizona & Business Professionals of Arizona, there are weekly and monthly gatherings for both groups in order to keep us connected.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to the most supportive and motivating partner that I could dream of: Adrian Jordan. Whether it is helping in my limited marketing endeavors by sharing, commenting and helping to promote my business on various social media platforms or being the best networking partner I could have. Adrian has been a huge factor in my growth and success in our daily lives, as a supportive partner is essential to the entrepreneurial growth process. I appreciate & recognize all that you do. Thank you and I love you bunches.
