Meet Tommy Knos | Tommy / Vildknos

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tommy Knos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tommy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk should be my middle name ( ha ha ) I am Danish musician who write and perform my own songs and i am dyslexia. In school, I had a hard time struggling with dyslexia. I was getting bullied and getting into fights.
Through all the action movies and spaghetti westerns i and my brother watched at our dad’s house i learned quite a lot of English. As a young kid i wanted to be a movie star and/or a rock star when i grew up, but my teachers told my i couldn’t because of my dyslexia. i wasn’t having it, though. i wanted to prove them wrong. In continuation school i picked up an instrument for the first time. A bass. i learned a couple af songs and played at the school’s show. In my teens i joined a heavy metal band ( 9000 John Doe ) with some friends. But after 20 years of playing heavy metal, i wanted to get back to something i remember as a kid, spaghetti western / country music. So i went solo and created a one man band called: Vildknøs ( Vildknos ). Back in 2017 i visited the beautiful Arizona desert, and i got so inspired i wrote a song called Arizona Whisky. And i just got back from driving route 66 2022, and yes i stopped by Arizona desert again, this time i shot a music video, Arizona Whisky it’s out now https://youtu.be/acoSyO5krwc

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I jumped in to this one man band to do something new for myself, not knowing where is gonna to go and that is what makes it exciting for me. I just mix-up everything i like in music Rock n roll / spaghetti western / Dark country / singer songwriter / One man band. And people are liking it and some don’t, but it does matters too me, all that matters is having fun and your welcome to join the party if you want, if not, your loss. Imagine driving down a dusty desert highway wearing a leather jacket and cowboy boots with a broken heart and feeling the blues and maybe had one too many. That’s Vildknøs ( Vildknos )
I was born in the cold and dark Northern Denmark. I grew up in a broken home, but nevertheless a musical home. My mom liked to play and sing along to all the hits of the 70´s & 80’s. My dad was a truck driver and a mechanic. He listened to country, 50’s/60’s/70’s rock n’ roll. My older brother turned Me on to hard rock, heavy metal and techno. But it was the rock and metal that stuck. Safe to say i got a lot of different music influences at a young age. No one in the family could play an instrument, But i told myself to do it.
It was easy for me doing to my dyslexic. Meaning i can´t read, so when i write a song i have to remember it all in my head, so i might screw up sometimes when i´m playing live or in the recording studio, but it doesn´t matter to me this just what’s makes it real. Today when i´m writing lyrics i talk into my phone and it will do it for me most of the time, but i am lucky to have a helpful wife, most of the time HA HA i´m in trouble now.
In January of 2020 i wars on a mini tour. The Bodega Tour. Doing shows in the local bars. Just me ( Vildknøs ), my guitar and a backdrop of neon lights. Come the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, i added a bandana to my appearance. A feature i has decided to keep, because it reminds me of the spaghetti westerns i has loved since childhood.
What i learned along the way is, if you don´t believe in what you are doing, why should anybody else?
Keep fighting for what you believe in, and you will overcome the challenge.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
well i just got home from driving 3612 miles across America, Route 66 + some detours along there way. Driving the mother road from Chicago to California is a crazy wonderful experience. i love the little citys old neon lights and diners from the 50´s. there´s nothing like driving that little road, just to get away from the big noisy city. I meet a lot of lovely people out there just trying to make a living on Route 66.
But i took a detour up to Monument Valley in Arizona / Utah and spend a night there with my wife. We saw the sundown and sunrise over does beautiful red mountains, it was something else just mine blowing.
It was like being in every cowboy movie i ever have seem. Something to put on your bucketlist.
