We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor behind my the Success of my photography business is Passion. I feel like I found my calling when I discovered my love for photography. When I have a photosession, I’m genuinely excited to go to work. Its not work for me, its my artistic outlet, it makes me happy, I get to use my creativity and create my art. I get to capture moments in time for my clients to cherish and keep forever. That makes my soul happy. That translates to very happy clients who then recommend me to their friends. Referrals keep my business going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I guess my photography journey started when I did my first photoshoot for the AZ Cardinals Cheerleaders Swimsuit Calendar my first year on the team. I just loved it! After that I pursued modeling and I was traveling the world doing photoshoots but I was in front of the camera. I worked with some amazingly talented photographers. I loved modeling, creating beautiful photos, helping products sell for businesses. I learned a lot about lighting, angles, workflow etc. Through all those years I always had a little point and click camera I took everywhere to document all the moments. I really felt an urge to photograph everything.

When I started my family, I kept modeling for a few years but that career obviously had its time limit. I loved taking pictures of my beautiful baby but that little camera just wasn’t good enough. I knew what good photography was, I knew I could do better. I bought a Canon Rebel during my second pregnancy and taught myself how to use it. I practiced on friends, my family, took it everywhere. Finally I found my style and vibe, That’s something you have to find, see what speaks to you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so my style is about what looks good to my eye.

I realized I loved sunkissed golden light. I see beautiful light and all I want to do is photograph it. It makes sense. Photo – graphy is “light- wrinting” right? Writing with light. My daughter’s name is Araya Sunshyne so when I decided to make a business of my photography passion I named it after her since she was my inspiration and my muse. Sunshyne Pix was born in 2013.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Arizona really has so much to offer to visitors. I was born and raised here and I am a great tour guide. First I would take visitors Paddle Boarding down the Salt River. I actually have several extra paddle boards just to bring along people that don’t have their own boards. I live in East Mesa about 18 minutes from the River. I go all the time, I love photographing the wild horses beautiful scenery, Everyone who I have taken has ended up buying their own boards. And I of course do photo sessions there on the regular for clients. I would also take them wake surfing at Saguaro Lake. Show them how us inland surfers catch waves off the back of the boat. Lake days are the best days.
Since Mesa has beautiful weather the majority of the year, anything outside is where its at. Joe’s Farm Grill, Queen Creek Olive Mill are great lunch spots with delicious food. For the night life we would hit Downtown Gilbert for dinner and cocktails.
I also love hiking. Some of my favorite local trails are Wind Cave at Usery Mountian. Hieroglyphics Trail in the Superstitions.
An AZ Roadtrip would be in order too. Sedona is a magical place to day trip to. During the winter a snowboard day at Snowbowl is must. I just went to the tubing snow park last year for the first time and that was such a fun day and we can’t wait to do that again. Page and Lake Powell is an out of this world trip. That place should be on everyone’s bucket list. I just got back from my 5th trip paddling 15 miles down Glen Canyon (Horsehoe Bend) and it never gets old.
I love adventure in case you can’t tell. My idea of a good time involves an outdoor activity in a beautiful location where you wear yourself out in the sunshine having fun and then fill your belly with good food from a restaurant or off the BBQ in my backyard.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It is so important to be mentored as a newbie at anything really. I was lucky enough to meet a very talented photographer Julie Foskett when I was starting out. I hired her as my own wedding photographer and then I started 2nd shooting for her. The amount of knowledge you acquire just from shadowing an experienced professional is like nothing that can be taught in a class or in a video. Watching how they work, absorbing and learning the ins and outs of the job is essential to know what the heck you are doing when you go out on your own. Confidence is everything.
