We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Molinaro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, what are you inspired by?
The beauty that nature provides.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My interest in photography began early in life and became a passion while working in NYC. I began photographing cityscapes, mostly in black & white. I have expanded my interests over the years with a particular focus on landscape photography. I enjoy camping and hiking and seldom seen without cameras in tow. My ambition is to visit as many National, State, and Tribal Parks as possible to capture images of the beauty and majesty that abounds in our country.
Traipsing the trails and the wilderness whenever possible provides extensive opportunities to enjoy the outdoors while “chasing light and shadow” from sunrise to sunset and, sometimes, after dark. I enjoy experimenting with the changing light, colors, and shadows of the many varied landscapes.
Throughout my life and experiences, I have come to appreciate that we have a limited amount of time to interact with our environment and those around us. It is vitally important to me that I seize the opportunities presented to me, when they show up, and not fall back on the easy response of, “I’ll get to it later.” There may not be a “later” and I do not want to miss out on all life has to give.
I hope that the images I capture bring joy and wonder to others whether they have visited the same locations or are unable to travel to view what I have seen.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is so much beauty in this world, and in this country. Being able to show others the beauty and wonder of our National Parks, State Parks, Tribal Parks, and wilderness areas would be ideal. A week would not suffice, and the trip should be cross country to the many beautiful locations that are spread throughout the country. From Olympic National Park in Washington to Acadia National Park in Maine, there are just so many locations to visit and experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The photographer I admire the most, who has influenced me in my journey, would be Ansel Adams. His drive, his compositions, his attention to detail, his vision and ability to see the finished image in his eye and then compose and capture the scene is second to none.
