We had the good fortune of connecting with Sunset Bowls and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sunset, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My wife and I are always looking for ways to eat healthier. Our main complaints are usually the price of the food, and the taste of healthier foods. Acai bowls have always been a go to for us because they taste so good, and are super filling! After spending some time living in Hawaii and basically LIVING on Acai Bowls, we knew it was time to bring more awareness to these delicious and healthy smoothie bowls! Sunset Bowls was created as an affordable way for people to experience healthy food that tastes delicious and fills you up! Our bowls are completely customizable so you can pick whatever healthy bases, fruit, and toppings you’d like!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My wife and I have always enjoyed creative outlets- whether it’s experimenting with a fun recipe, or doing a water color painting together. We wanted Sunset Bowls to be more than just your average acai bowl shop, so we started brainstorming a way to bring an artistic element into the process. We also wanted our customers to be able to have an engaging and creative experience while ordering their bowls. So, rather than blend all of the fruits into one solid mixture, all of our bases are layered separately into the bowl, creating a beautiful- and edible, piece of art.
This really sets us apart from other acai bowl and smoothie bowl shops. Not only are we healthy, but our bowls look so cool, you almost don’t want to eat them!
With 8 different bases, and never ending options of fruits and other toppings, there’s always a new healthy, delicious, and creative bowl to be made!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are big sports fans, and we love showing our Arizona pride, so if there’s any sports games going on, we’d definitely take them to experience Arizona sports culture! Side note- one of our bowls The Valley bowl, is actually based off of the Phoenix Suns iconic Valley jerseys! A trip down the salt river is a must in the Arizona heat, so that would definitely be our daytime activity! As for food, one of our favorite places to eat is Joe’s Farm Grill in Gilbert. Then of course we’d finish the night off with a trip to Sunset Bowls! 😉

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s hard to pinpoint one person or group to shoutout because there have been so many influential people on our journey! We think it’s so important to surround yourself with people that are supportive of your goals. Lucky for us, our family fits that bill perfectly and really encouraged us as we were getting started. We’ve read and listened to so many helpful books and podcasts that have elevated us as well- The E-Myth is a great book that comes to mind for scaling a business, and The Local Hustlers Podcast was a great podcast to listen to that highlights local business owners in the East Valley!
