We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rick, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Palatine, Illinois. It is a small town outside of Chicago. My mother, her mother, and her father are / were all very talented artists. My father and his father were in the building construction industry. Luckily, I inherited the artistic talent and a love for building from my family. Growing up I was always sketching and building Lego creations, those were my absolute favorite things to do as a child. My parents always encouraged me to create art. Also, my father would let me build stuff from the scrap lumber left over from his remodel projects and take me to construction sites to help as well. I was unknowingly developing architectural skills from a very young age.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a small architecture firm with a huge variety of project type experience located in Phoenix. We do commercial projects including; educational, retail, restaurants, office, and industrial. I started Hamilton Architecture in 2006 after working for small, medium, and large firms here in Arizona. Our approach to architectural design includes several main components. We first need to thoroughly understand the clients’ needs. Then we use three-dimensional computer modeling to portray architectural ideas to our clients. By modeling everything in three dimensions, our clients always understand the design intent exactly. We make environmental responsibility fundamental to design decisions. The importance of day lighting, renewable materials, and energy efficient systems all create long-term value for our clients. Our firm will incorporate all of these ideas to create spaces that are rich with deep-rooted meaning and demonstrates community pride and permanence. New projects are always exciting! Having people hire us to bring ideas into three dimensions and then seeing it ultimately end up as a real building for people is just an amazing honor. We are passionate about the process and strive for continual improvement. Architecture is such a great profession that allows you to always learn and grow. I am truly grateful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When friends and relatives come to town, I always take them to several of my favorite restaurants. We have the best restaurants here. I love several Mexican places. My favorites are; Richardson’s, Rito’s, Otro, and Cocina Madrigal. Great places to eat and drink! Of course we also like to just hang out in our backyard at the pool. Our weather is so great and the pool is a must! We love to grill and entertain in our backyard.

Golfing and hiking are great things to do with friends as well. I’m a terrible golfer, but I keep playing anyways. Papago is a great public course and Papago Park has beautiful views as you walk the trails.

The Phoenix Art Museum is a great place to take out of town guests as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
