We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Kent and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The process for me was the vision of making a membership based lesson program. Everyone does lessons by the hour and it can get expensive. I wanted a more economical model, but also want to see golfers make better gains in their overall game faster. This membership model gives golfers the opportunity to come everyday of the month and work on what we are building instead of weekly.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Project Par is Southern Arizona’s first Golf Performance outfit. Not only do our Unlimited Lesson Monthly Memberships cover the obvious swing analysis but I am also TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) certified and lead people through assessments that give them a program to better their bodies. Through mobility and strength people will see a better improvement in their golf swings. October we start an indoor facility here at Randolph Golf Complex as well as green grass. I will have a Foresight sports GCQuad indoor simulator to help people and get more data throughout their swing. Eventually that 2500 sq ft facility will be Southern Arizona’s most technology advanced golf performance studio. The road to all this was a painful one in building a clientele, long days of sitting on the range and “walking the line” to find people to give free tidbits to until they believe you can help them. From there you rely on customer referrals to get you going. Putting most dollars back into the business at first is hard because you want to be able to go out to eat with the girlfriend, and enjoy life but the sacrifice made in the beginning to get to where we are at as a business is all worth it when you see the transformations made by the membership model. Next level is our indoor facility and continued growth.
I would love the world to know that Project Par is committed to making the people that trust us with their games better than they have ever been. No matter your age, your body, your strength, your mobility, your speed, can always improve with this model. Where else can you get a lesson everyday and work on multiple facets of your golf game? Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Tucson has one of the best outdoor experiences in the country in my opinion. From Mount Lemmon, to Sabino Canyon, to the lakes south in Patagonia, the varied elevations give multiple options to enjoy the outdoor life. Hiking, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, swimming, horse back riding to 5 star resorts. Vast amounts of eateries to satisfy any taste buds, one of our favorite things to do is chase Family Joint Pizzeria food truck to any of my favorite beer houses. Tap and Bottle, Tucson Hop Shop, or Arizona Beer House. Their Carne Asada Pizza is to die for.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would give a shout-out to my girlfriend of 4 years for providing me the opportunity to be able to start a business and struggle while making it work. She believes not only in me but the model I envisioned.
Also my best friend Ryan Faust with FaustyGolf for his mentorship and support helping me find my way.
