Meet Izabella Rain | Visual Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Izabella Rain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Izabella, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The principle that matters most to me is staying true to myself, to my artistry and to the intention behind the pieces I create and share. Though I know at times it may seem more profitable or alluring to make things based off of trends, marketing, and popularity, I do not wish to make things that are without purpose and soul. Art has always been an intuitive and intrinsic way of my self expression and this can only come through authenticity and vulnerability. I create what I experience, feel, and see using symbolism because I know many others have similar experiences but can not always find the words or speak openly about them. My hope is that my art may help others find more connection, insight, and growth.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been both quite introspective of myself and observant of the outside world. I’ve always felt as If I was a bystander, placed here seemly belonging, but secretly peering through the key notch, or looking down the rabbit hole of multideminsional existence. Taking notes in order to generate a story that made more sense to me. I tend to have the curious habit of lifting the veil to see what I can find hiding beneath the surface. To discover the cosmos swept under the rug disguised as dust and spiders. I think this God given demeanor was the key element that guided me on my artistic path.
I really didn’t see any other way out. Even with this intrinsic knowing, it still scares me every single day. The art, the label, the responsibility to create, to feel, to wake up and embrace this strange, beautiful, harrowing existence. Then to have the audacity to maybe even make a little bit of sense out of it, for myself and hopefully for those that are akin to this conflicted state of inner knowing and the vast unknown.
I am grateful for the trials and tribulations that I have traversed and proud to have faced many of my fears, as this has enabled me to step into my self on a more realized level. These things have brought me to the person and artist I am today, still ever-evolving. I wouldn’t say it was easy embracing the fears of putting my art and myself out into the world in the face of judgement and ridicule but it is extremely rewarding to be greeted with much more appreciation and kindness than I ever imagined. It took listening to my intuition to find the right places and people meant for me and also being able to determine that which I needed to say no to and the ideas of success I needed to let go of in order to have the freedom I desired.
I think the most challenging part is finding the balance of artistry/creation and the business side of being a self employed artist and everything that comes with that. This being said, I enjoy a good challenge, and I wouldn’t trade any part of this life I’ve created.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Cave Creek and show them around the town, especially Local Jonny’s for coffee, food, live music and amazing people. We would go to Cave Creek Candle Company for some natural & local hand poured candles. I would take them to the Dragonfly Trail natural area for some hiking and nature inspiration.
We would go to the Phoenix Theater for a play and then peruse the Phoenix Art Museum. We would hit up the downtown Phoenix art and farmers market. While downtown, I would also take them to the FilmBar to catch an independent movie.
We would go to Buffalo Exchange for some thrifting as well as downtown Tempe for some unique boutique shopping.
And somewhere in between I’d make them hike Camel Mountain to get a taste of what it’s like to be a real desert rat and to get an incredible view of the city,

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my mom and each of my family members for supporting and encouraging me in their own ways. The rebellious teachers I had. The friends and partners who have supported me on the different parts of my path. Those who came before me and laid the foundation. The many artists and writers who inspired me with their worlds.
