We had the good fortune of connecting with Cambria Dickerson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cambria, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is a necessary part of being successful in your life and your career. In moments, we will all get tested with the fear of the unknown or uncertain circumstances, which builds courage and opens us up to new possibilities. Taking risks has played a tremendous role in my personal character development and prepared me for expansion. The biggest risk I’ve ever taken was when I decided to relocate to Arizona from California without knowing where I’d live or really how it would all work out. All I knew was that I was accepted into a Western Herbalism course at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, (a dream of mine!) and that I had a second interview set up with a prospective employer. That’s it. And apparently, it was enough for me to pack up my three suitcases and make my way to a new state with a new opportunity!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m Cambria ” Cam” Dickerson and I’m a Herbalist & Public Relations specialist. I got into the idea of natural healing when I began my spiritual journey in 2017. I understood that most medicines only work to alleviate the symptoms and not the actual illness/ailment and wanted to learn how to provide support to healing holistically (in a way that treats the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of a disease). I started to research to learn about the power of plants and how they can cure and/or support every bodily issue known to mankind!
I’m currently studying Western Herbalism at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. Prior to being enrolled at SWIHA, I studied herbalism on my own and even worked at an herbal store for more hands-on knowledge. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and enjoy connecting with others to form partnerships that serve all parties involved.
My current entrepreneurship endeavor is my mobile apothecary and clinical business that I’m currently building out Lune Herbals. Lune Herbals is a holistic healing line of products created from nature’s herbs to promote spiritual and physical wellness based on herbal astrology. I love learning and connecting with the alignments of planets, plants, and people that promote healing! Products currently include Full Moon Energy Cleanse bath salts, Zodiac Astrolo-tea blends, with hopes to expand to carry more organic herbal medicines and magic such as tinctures, flower essences, & candles for manifesting. I also will offer clinics where I accept patients open to learning how to heal with personalized plant medicines based on their birth chart.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best time ever would have to start with brunch from one of my favorite spots called Scramble in Downtown Tempe! I’m mostly vegan and they have great options for the plant-based crew. After that, we could stroll down Mill Avenue to do some shopping at the spiritual-based Henna Shoppe, check out some herbs at Happy Healthy High Horny Herbs, and look at some fashion trends at Urban Outfitters. We could even do a little day drinking at Fat Tuesday or one of the other local bars on the strip. Mill Avenue is basically a one-stop shop that’s only seven minutes from where I live. Next on the itinerary, we could do a small hike to watch the sunset at Hole in the Rock trail at Papago Park. The next day we can explore more in Phoenix and try to catch a farmer’s market, which is my kinda fun! Maybe find an outlet mall and that evening, head to the Boom Boom Room bar lounge for some good music and drinks. There’s so much to do in Phoenix that listing it all would take forever but these are a few staple spots we’d have to go to!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, first and foremost, God! I’ve been so blessed along my path to entrepreneurship so I have to give thanks and show gratitude. I’d also like to give a special shoutout to my mom for supporting me through every turn my entrepreneurial journey has taken. She’s been here encouraging me to succeed from day one. My friends Neph, Chakiara, Brea & Symone have also been a great support system pushing me to never give up on my dreams and keeping me level-headed through it all.
Every job in my career has dramatically impacted me in some way, shape, or form. I’ve expanded my skill set, had the real-life experience to shape my niche, witnessed the ins and outs of business management, and most importantly learned valuable lessons about myself. I’ve gained too many meaningful connections, but they all have contributed to where I am today.
