We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Steele and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikki, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
This is the question I’d say most entrepreneurs struggle with the most. However, I believe and I know research backs up my belief that grit, hard work, and determination are the key factors to success- even more so than intelligence. With that, I’ve found that to be true as the times I question should I give up are the times the very next day a new bright opportunity comes my way and if I would have given up on the times I doubted I wouldn’t be where I am today. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither are business.es. I’m of the mindset slow and steady grit and determination wins the race! You’ll be surprised after a roadblock always comes a better way than you could have imagined. Don’t forget that!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Nikki Steele Style apart from other fashion brands is that we have fun, fashion, and style for every BODY! We also strive to promote products made in USA, Guatemala (which is near in dear to our families heart), and women owned businesses.

Was it easy to start my business. I would say yes, however to continue when you get discouraged is the hard part but also the best part. Just when you think its time to throw in the towel and wondering if you make a difference- I’ll get a surprise message from a supporter and how our business helps them or a new opportunity arises that I wasn’t expecting. There is truth in the saying “slow and steady win the race!” Lesson keep plugging away every day at your business and it is bound to succeed.

What I would like the world to know about our brand and story is that it’s never too late to follow your passion and succeed. Our story is derived from my family and our purpose is to change the world one style at a time! If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Depends on the city- as we travel a lot! However, we always like to get the local flavor and if you seek out these spots in any new destination you are bound to have a great authentic local experience. First, find a locally owned coffee/tea shop and start your day there. Then ask the barista where the best local shopping is located. Head to that area and buy something from the local shop that you love. You’ll have something to always remember that experience from while supporting the locals. Again, ask the store employees where their favorite lunch and dinner spot is in town. Then plan ending your day there and going over all the fun finds you found! You can never go wrong when you take this approach when exploring the city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother, Mary Bernel. She has always encouraged me to be my own person and go for it. She’s the best cheerleader and role model on the planet. I also would like to acknowledge my son and husband as they have been great encouragers and believers in me.too! I can’t thank them enough! These people are my Ultimate Pineapples!
