Meet Dr. Leyla Hur | Spiritual Medium, Master Reiki Healer, Psychic Wellness and Empowerment Mentor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Leyla Hur and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Leyla, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
My origin story is quite miraculous, and is an absolute direct impact to my entire life, and who I am today.

I was born in London, England due to Mum having complications in pregnancy; however, I was raised in (pre-1997 Colonial) Hong Kong, Malaysia and Australia (with Hong Kong always being home base until 1992 when we emigrated to Canada), and had traveled extensively throughout the world, in my youth.

I almost did not make it into this world and life several times, while still in utero. My twin was lost at 5 months gestation, and I was thought to be dead as well. I was also without amniotic fluid for a month until a miracle on the plane to England, and cabin pressure brought the amniotic fluid back. However, the month without the fluid, left me with a slight birth defect, in my inner ear and left me with hearing loss. When I was born, I was too long in the birth canal and was born without a heartbeat. It took doctors 10 minutes of working on me and an injection directly into my heart, before I finally took my first breath and let out my first cry into this world.

I had arrived!

I believe that my determination to live from pre-birth, through the birth experience, and my first roar into the world announcing that I was HERE, has been the seed to every instance of strength and determination to forge forward no matter what, and raise myself above adversity. I believe it also has given me the strength to not accept “No”, and that “No’s” just give me a new direction to arrive at the “YES!”

My family was in business, and so business talk and discussions, were always common talk around every family meal together. My parents also included me in everything they did… which was 99% business oriented. Mum has often told me throughout my life that she even breastfed me during business meetings around the conference table!

My Dad also worked for Orient Overseas Container Lines (OOCL), and retired in the late 1980s as CEO and Chairman of the Board. When I say my parents included me in everything, I was always taken to cocktail parties, and learned from a very young age how to socialize with different people, and of all different social status. I think that it taught me away from any arrogance and that people are people, and to accept everyone as they are. I was also taken to business luncheons and many, many dinner parties. As a child, it was always a treat to get a rare opportunity to eat at home, rather than having to eat out in a restaurant.

The characteristic of hard work and multiple streams of income, was something that was instilled in me from birth. As was being instilled with the character of getting out there, and going for what you want, what your dreams are.

I was born in the early 1970s, and at that time, the spiritual and “new age” movement was very pronounced. My Mum was very interested in the teachings of Edgar Casey and Catherine Ponder, as well as others. She followed her Guru, Sai Baba and these teachings were also instilled in me. Growing up in Hong Kong, Chinese medicine and acupuncture, acupressure were the norms. In this environment, it was easy for me to grow up with an openness and encouragement of my own natural gifts. My eldest sister studied Acupuncture and in her 70s, my Mum studied Reflexology.

I was born gifted, and have always been a psychic medium. At 7 years old, I received a vision from my biological Grandmother who told me clearly; “You have your hands. Use them.” At that age, I didn’t understand the meaning of this, and so I told my mother. She immediately felt my hands and could feel a different energy coming out of my palms. It was a heat with waves of calming energy.

Shortly after that, she began holding Thursday afternoon prayer circles, where I would lay my hands on others who had some kind of ailment. It ranged from headaches, migraines, to depression and anxiety, as well as heart issues. I was a channel for healing and could see and feel Angels and Ancestors standing around me laying their hands upon my shoulders and head, and directed my hands. I would also channel messages through for those who attended these prayer circles. It was not very long before many people would start coming, and would seek healing energy from me.

It wasn’t until the mid-2000’s before I became initiated in Reiki and Blue Theta Healing, which added to what I already had been doing my entire life. It was also in this era that I began to be involved in the Self-Help, Empowerment and Motivational Speaking, and became involved with The Secret movement. In 2008, I debuted my online radio show, Manifesting the Positive, together with my co-host Stu Rosen. Our debut show opened to an international audience, with show growth over the 2 years we ran the show. When the show ended, I took a several year hiatus, and went through my own huge healing and growth process as I navigated my own health issues, and some personal issues, including separation and divorce.

The amazing thing about Self-rediscovery, and age, comes insane amounts of confidence, removal of EGO, healing past traumas, and finally opening oneself to being ready to fall freely into the Universal Flow, and not create obstacles to block success.

The difference between then and now, is “then”, I would go through the rote and channel the teachings. What the difference maturity brings, is spouting the channeled messages, and also learning from them and living them. I am a channel, but I am also a student, and oft-times what is channeled, is a message for myself as well. Being open to receive these messages and learn from them, heals further and creates a space where I am not only helping others simply by channeling, I can also attest to the learning, because I live them as well.

Once one sets their determination to something, it must eventuate. If not in the timeline that one would hope for, if it is true and Universally ordained, and needed, then it must happen.

On Day 1 of 2021, I made the determination to create positive changes in my life and set out a tentative, “what I am going to do” plan. The first was to begin divorce proceedings with my husband of 19 years (at that time), and after 4 years separation. While this was happening “in the background”, I worked on my own healing process, received my Doctor of Metaphysics degree, and created a couple of products and started to sell these at craft shows here in Northern Arizona. I began venturing back into my purpose, and held weekend reading specials every few months, out of my friends hair salon in Williams. I felt strongly to also bring in Reiki healing to my sessions, and that became very popular.

Once my divorce was finalized in August of 2021, it felt like the flood gates of Universal positive abundance came flooding in and I knew that I was now on the right path as clarity of purpose, became transparent. I knew a vision I had had as a young girl, was now ready to begin its process into becoming reality. But, I also knew that patience was going to be key, because while I can foresee the outcome, the process still takes work. I think this aspect can often be forgotten in the process, where we expect the Universe flow to be instantaneous, and everything you want, you get on a silver platter without doing the work to complete it. So when it comes to Universal flow, it is always important to remember that you are working “in partnership” with the Universe, and partnerships means putting in your equal efforts to create the reality.

In 2022, I decided to make my quarterly Reiki and Reading weekends, more regular and started working more regularly out of the shop in Williams. When the building the salon was housed sold, and everyone had to vacate by end of October, I did not freak out. I simply gave it all to the Universe and knew all would work out. I had been wanting to have a presence in Flagstaff, as I don’t drive and it was getting increasingly more difficult to get rides out to Williams from Flagstaff, and the taxi cost was quite a large overhead; so I set the intention out there, and put the manifesting of this reality, into process.

One day, I was in the car with my roommate and we drove past a building I actually took note of. I saw a sign on the front of the building, something about “Chinese Medicine”. I had not actually noticed this place before, even though I have passed it before. I did not take down the full name of the place the first time, but told myself to keep an eye next time we drove past. In the meanwhile, I had been suggested by a friend to see if another acupuncture center she frequented, might have a space for me to rent. I emailed them, and received no response. A couple of days after I sent that email, we happened to drive past that building again. This time, I got the name (Harmonizing  Healthcare PLLC Accupuncture and Herbal Medicine) and I immediately sent the clinic an email asking if there was space available to rent; and wouldn’t you know? There was an office space available for me. I immediately secured this, and my physical presence of ReLevel with Dr. Leyla Hur, was born. My office is now located upstairs from the clinic at 1926 N. 3rd St, APT 200, Flagstaff AZ 86004.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is quite unique as I am a Spiritual and Psychic Medium, and channel. I channel healing from the Angels and ancestors, as well through the transference of Reiki healing energy, and Blue Light Theta energy. I am also an Empowerment Coach, and Psychic Wellness Practitioner. I guess, if one was to sum all of this up to one term, it would be Psychic Wellness Practitioner.

I bring people into a well-rounded balance, hence the name of my business, ReLevel with Dr. Leyla Hur. I help individuals re-level back to balance.

In my practice, I work on the emotional, spiritual, and physical balance of an individual… Complete balance. This varies from counseling sessions, mediumship and psychic reading sessions, Reiki and healing sessions, ear coning sessions. I also hold weekly channeled and guided meditation sessions, on Thursday Mornings at 10AM. Laughter Meditation is a different form of meditation, but also includes exercising the stomach, in addition with giving the brain a huge endorphin release. These always start awkwardly as people are very reserved and have a hard time letting go. But once we push past that feeling of awkwardness and release, the experience is very unique and very fulfilling. I hold Laughter Meditation sessions at least once a month, in the Mid-Morning Meditation group on Thursdays.

I have lived in Arizona for close to 20 years now, and when I moved to Northern Arizona, I felt a different energy than I had experienced anywhere else in the world. I was born in the UK, and raised in (Colonial) Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, and spent several years in Canada in my late teens and my twenties. I was also blessed to travel extensively throughout the world, in my youth… and yet, nothing compared to the energies of what I experienced in Northern Arizona.

As an Intuitive Medium and Empath, I have always been “tuned in” to the energies around me. In all the lands, and cities, that I have lived in and visited, I never felt the sense of calm, peace, and grounding as I felt the moment I reached the high country of Northern Arizona. It’s just such an energy of transformation and clarity… the energy here in the high mountains, and forests, is… Clean. I have long wanted to share this energy with those who I love and who did not have the opportunity to live here.

In October 2020, I decided that it was time to change my course in life; and with the Covid pandemic all around us, it lent me the opportunity to slow down and focus on what the next chapter in my life would bring. It also lent me the opportunity to create a complete shift and career change in my life.

I began getting the strong feeling that it was time to figure out how to harness the energy of Northern Arizona, and to share it with my family and friends, living all across the globe. I began experimenting with different essential oil scents to capture that energy. I also realized that many of my loved ones had developed allergies to the smoke which traditional smoky smudges create.

Many felt that traditional smudges were inconvenient; especially in an office setting, or in public locations, such as supermarkets. The pandemic brought concerns over venturing out into supermarkets, which was notably arising anxieties among my loved ones and friends, worldwide.

During a late night meditation session, I suddenly saw the idea of a smudge spritzer. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I so love living in the Flagstaff area, and love to have any opportunity to show of “my world”, here. Flagstaff itself is very cute and when I have friends and loved ones come to visit, I really enjoy taking them to Downtown Flagstaff. It’s not a huge geographical area, but it is filled with a rich history, and lots of little Mom and Pop shops. I absolutely love Crystal Magic, located on the NW corner of San Francisco St and Route 66.

I am a huge fan of Cornish located on San Francisco St., and I love that they have Branston Pickle, which you have to ask for, which is a great accoutrement to most of the Cornish pasty.

Evans Fish and Chips, is a great English Chippy in town. Their fish is superb, and I absolutely love their mushy peas. Just remember to stir it up, first.

Go Sushi, on Milton is my go-to sushi spot, and they have recently introduced a Thai menu.

But Flagstaff proper aside, we have so much natural beauty up here, I always encourage a trip through the forest (when the forests are open). My favourite is FS 222 which runs between the 180 through to Old Route 66 in Bellemonte.

No one can come up north here, without a trip up Snowbowl and from Spring through Fall, I highly encourage taking the Gondola up. The views from these heights, knowing that you are almost at the highest point in the state (which can be attained if one hiked from the gondola drop off, up to the summit), is such an incredible feeling.

Williams is such a cute little town about 25-35 minutes drive west of Flagstaff. There are many local shops there, BBQ joints, and breweries. My favourite places there are Historic Brewing (you MUST try their Italian soup, and order a side of garlic cheese sticks to go along with it). This bar was actually in a scene of the classic movie; Midnight Run (starring Robert de Niro and Charles Grodin). Pine Country Restaurant, across the street, was also featured in a scene in the movie; where it was portrayed as a supermarket.

Wild West Junction is also an experience to be had, and is further down Route 66 heading towards Bearizona. Another spot that I recommend as a drive through park, where you will encounter bears, wolves, buffalo, and more.

Of course, the Grand Canyon itself, but also remember to stop by Flintstones Bedrock City – Raptor Ranch, which is about 25 minutes before you reach Tusayan and the main gates of The Grand Canyon park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My first Shout Out would be to my dear friend Yvette Wolff. I met Yvette in 2004 when she owned the metaphysical store; Mystical Cove, in Chandler, Arizona. I was looking for a job as a “reader”. While I had been doing this “job” my entire life, and had worked very briefly in a metaphysical shop in Tempe, it really was at Mystical Cove where I got my first professional start, here in Arizona.

Yvette has always encouraged me, and given me a lot of guidance in all these years. She has become a very dear friend, and is definitely a close “sister” in my tribe.

I also Shout Out Amanda Orozco, who owns Amanda’s Beauty Box. She gave me my start in Northern Arizona. It was in 2016 when she contacted me out of the blue to be “her psychic” at her annual Girl’s Night Out, in Williams, which raises funds for the Amanda’s Beauty Box School Scholarship Fund. From that initial encounter, we grew a friendship, and she gave me a space to emerge out of a few years of living in near solitude, and find my path again. She truly “launched me” here in Northern Arizona.

Of course, I must give my greatest Shout Out’s to my parents, my Dad watching down from Above, and my eldest sister, Hetty, who is with my Dad and watching down. Without their acceptance of this “weird child”, constant encouragement, and pushing me forward, I would not be who I am today. Whether it was moving forward, or rising out of any situation, it was their constant encouragement and belief in me, that kept my feet on solid ground.
