Meet Kassidy Baker | Sam Rufo

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kassidy Baker and Sam Rufo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kassidy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We were planning my daughters 3rd birthday party; we had designed a balloon arch, made chocolate covered candy dipped in sprinkles, and even designed a mosaic frame. We went the whole 9 yards. It was my best friend and now partner, Sam, who then came to me, and suggested the business idea. After further discussion and research, we realized “why not turn our kids party planning into a business?” We knew we wanted to do something we loved, and we want to be able to create a space where it doesn’t feel like work. In todays world, we believe its important to support one another, especially other women. One day, we hope to support other women, by bringing them into the company; making us a fully women operated business. However, we didn’t want to overwhelm ourselves on starting a whole event business, so as partners, we decided to focus strictly on balloon and flower art until our business is big enough to expand. Our services would include balloon arch installs, custom designed mosaic frames, and our special hot air balloon baskets, and trust me, I know what you’re thinking “how do gift baskets and party planning go together?” They don’t, unless you want to buy a hot air balloon basket for the person you’re throwing the party for, then I would say so. I wanted to be able to go out to swap meets and flea markets, have more ways to network and grow our business; I found the idea of the “hot air balloon basket” on Pinterest while scrolling, looking at balloon art. As soon as i saw it, I knew that we could include this into our business. One reason we picked the name “Limitless Experience” is because we believe there is no limit to the things we can do and the experiences we can create.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Things we are most excited about are being able to meet new people and make memories for families that they’ll remember forever. With this business, it will be able to take us all over the state of Arizona, celebrating different things like birthdays, anniversaries, or even baby showers. We will also be able to have the financial freedom; no more missing milestones or important events because of a job we have to get to. With our business, we don’t want to look at our clients as such, but rather as “friends.” When people want to do business with us, we would love to buy you coffee while you tell us what you envision. I know its always a plus to be professional, but with event planning, I feel like it is so important to know who you are working for, and what their personality is. It is also important for our customers to know who we are as well. I think that’s what sets us apart from the others; we are focused on treating our customers like our friends. Our customers are updated throughout the process, that way if they don’t like something, we have time to improvise.
To get in the place we are in today, has taken a lot of sleepless nights, researching different things, and many facetime calls between Sam and I. It wasn’t easy, but I wouldn’t say it was hard. The main thing we have been doing to overcome our challenges is communicating with one other and ensuring we aren’t overwhelming ourselves with things we have to do. Each week we have a meeting; to catch up on what we did for the business over the weekend, go over goals, discuss where we are lacking, and what we need to focus on for the next week. Since we are a new business, we are still figuring out everything, but having each other has made it a lot easier.
Our whole brand is fun, balloons, and memories. We want people to know that we aren’t afraid of a challenge, and if you give us a shot, we won’t let ya down
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Right now, Sam is based in Tempe, and I am in Tucson,
If Sam came out, we would probably start our day off with some shopping at Park Place Mall, and then head next door to Round 1 for some games.
For food, we would go to Empire Pizza downtown or maybe even First Watch for breakfast or lunch.
If we wanted some drinks, I would suggest Hotel Congress for their drink menu. Or if we are in a sober mood, we could go to Eegees to try the flavor of the month.
finally, end your night with some ice cream from The Screamery Ice Cream Shop.
As far as places, I would say the miniature museum is somewhere we would go. Its a museum full of mini things. Tanque Verde Swap Meet is cool place to go; lots of small business’ all in one place, selling an assortment of things,

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We wouldn’t have started this business if not for our kids; the motivation to give them a life full of excitement and balloons is what makes us want to do this. My parents have been a big support; my step mom Angela, and my dad, Howard, has helped us with buying things for the business, words of encouragement and constructive criticism, and were even our first customer.
