We had the good fortune of connecting with Allison Callahan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allison, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being a personal trainer was a long time dream of mine. I found a love for fitness 10 years ago when I started my own fitness journey. I went from dreading my workouts to looking forward to them. I have always wanted to help other people not only meet their goals but also develop the same love and appreciation of fitness. Unfortunately, fear of failure kept me from trying for several years. However, after recently having a baby, my passion was reignited after learning the great need for education surrounding fitness and the pregnancy/postpartum period. With the support of my family cheering me on, I took the leap. I got certified as a personal trainer and a pre- and postnatal coach. My goal in starting this business was to help women in all stages of life learn to love fitness and feel good in their bodies. Being a mom is incredibly rewarding but also very physically demanding. I wanted to help moms train for motherhood and to do it in a way that felt relatable and attainable. That is why I started my training company. I can relate to the struggles of motherhood and I strive to empower women to feel strong and healthy throughout pregnancy and postpartum.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The focus of my business is to train women for motherhood. Fitness to me is more than just aesthetics. It is about training for life. My focus is on training functional movements that a mother will use on a daily basis. Daily mothers might be squatting down to play with a child, carrying a baby around, or pushing a stroller through the park. I also train mothers to prepare for the physical task involved in pregnancy and birth. It is clear that throughout pregnancy and postpartum there is a physical demand on a mother’s body. It is my mission to help empower women to feel strong and healthy during that season.

The biggest challenge in getting my business to where it is today was getting started and having the courage to take a leap of faith. Once I took that leap and got started, I was able to build momentum and grow from the ground up. My business is still in the early stages of growth but since taking that leap, I feel confident that I am where I should be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start off the week with a day trip to oak Creek canyon in between Flagstaff and Sedona. We would pack a nice picnic and explore the canyon. Then we would drive through Prescott on the way down to the valley and enjoy the shopping around the town square. When we make it to Phoenix we would stop by Rough Riders for a classy cocktail and oysters. To wrap up the trip we would spend the day at the wigwam resort and in the evening go hear live music from Jim Pond music at transplant city brewery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my husband who has been my number one supporter and the one that encouraged me to pursue my dream of starting a business. He has supported me every step of the way and helped me build my confidence. I would have never started if it wasn’t for him.
