Greg Treviso | Business Owner and Personal Trainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Treviso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Greg, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, the thought process of starting my own business was years in the making. My undergraduate degree in Kinesiology ended with a 400 hour internship in Cardiac Rehabilitation. This was eye opening for a 22 year old to see the ill effects of what happens as you get older if the body is not taken care of. As I entered the profession of personal training, the thought of Cardiac Rehabilitation allowed me to take my explanation of why my clients “needed fitness” went much deeper than just “looking better”. 5 years into my profession I began my studies into an MBA with an emphasis in Health Care Management. I knew that learning the business side of the industry would be essential to running a fitness business successfully. The MBA allowed me to really put thought into a business plan with ideas for the future.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My journey in the fitness industry began in 1997 with a degree in Kinesiology. I feel that education is so vital to keep you on top with the new trends. My certifications include: National Strength and Conditioning Association- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
International Sports Science Association-
Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Specialist in Performance Nutrition
International Tennis Performance Association-Certified Tennis Performance Specialist
The certifications require continued education hours every year to keep your certifications and stay sharp in the industry. When you are passionate about your industry your staff and clientele sense that it’s more than just making a dollar. You truly care about their well being and health success. I’m proud to be a business owner for over 20 years and endured the difficulties of the housing crash along with covid. In both instances, we had to pivot but still stay true to our business model.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Arizona offers so many great opportunities for travelers. My son is currently enrolled at NAU so I would take a visitor to Flagstaff to see the beauty up north and along the way stop in Sedona. In Sedona, I would take a visitor to the Coffee Pot restaurant. They have over a 100 different omelettes. The college town of Flagstaff has many unique shops and restaurants to choose from.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to Lance Dreher. When I began my career at The Fitness Institute Scottsdale, he implemented programs that were so different than anything I had observed previously. They involved Corrective Exercise Training along with PHA training. The programs emphasize on corrective muscular training for posture along with alternating between upper and lower body movements to keep the client moving in a cardiovascular response. This is extremely beneficial for the aging body and time efficient for the busy adult because exercise sessions can be completed in 30 minutes.
